  • Renting a dyno for self tuning.

So my buddy has a very unique project that he is at the stage where he needs to tune the car. Unfortunately, due to the uniqueness of it-he can not find a shop that will assist him with the tuning of the vehicle. So he will be taking it into his own hands and attempting to tune himself. He has done it before on a few vehicles but had access to a dyno at that time.

So we are curious if anyone knows of a facility that would rent a dyno for self tuning. We would prefer this over street tuning for safety reasons. From what I have found it is not the easiest to find anyone willing, but i completely understand.

So if anyone knows a place where we might be able to do this that would be great and thank you!

I thought I saw that Fast Motorsports in Woodstock IL rents theirs. Not positive.

Last year I saw a Lexus up at GLD that seemed like it was having issues, but looked to have potential. I think that one was white as well.. I wonder if it's the same car.

This paticular car only made it out to byron twice about 3 years ago. He actually ended up melting a piston due to running lean. Thats what he got for reaching out to someone for a poor street tune. He got 2-3 passes off and on the last pass about the 1/8 mile marker it just started puffing smoke. That was also on stock internals. Now he forged the entire rotating assembly and wants to tune it right and participate in it himself this year. He also pulled out the stock auto trans and dropped in a 6 speed getrag manual trans (manual trans out of supra twin turbo). With the auto trans he put down right around 530whp/550tq @about 12psi.

Sound performance built a white one like this, but the used the 2JZ (notorious supra motor) and ran 9's a few times.

the car pictured above is actually the first and still only known 1UZ (Toyotas 4.0L V8) that is matched up to the getrag 6 speed manual trans. Hes hoping by pushing it to 15psi and the trans he should be over 600whp.

haha that was good, i was quoting for those that weren't familiar with the movie or import engines.

But here is the fastest pass just before it melted the piston

Wow that's a lot of lateral movement in the run... That would be scary to deal with and certainly not something that chassis was ever intended for when designed.

It's crazy what human determination can bring about..
