  • Teaser Thread - RX Performance Install

    Hey All,

I can't believe that I was gone for soooo long, but I'm back! For those of you that remember me, I had one of the first STS Turbo kits on my car. I don't want to sound negative, so I am just going to say I don't recommend STS, and leave it at that.

I took my car down to have it worked on by Tracey with RX Performance near Tampa, Florida. My car should be getting shipped back at the end of this week, or early next week, but here is a short list of things I had done:

    1) Replaced the STS Turbo with a BorgWarner EFR 7064 Twin scroll Turbo. This thing is going to rock! It will consistently get into boost at lower RPMs, and it will make more power than what I had before.

    2) The turbo is still in the rear, utilizing most of the original STS piping, but it has been resigned. All of my exhaust has been directed to the turbo, instead of half to the turbo, and half to the wastegate, like the STS setup. This will allow the BorgWarner to spool up very quickly.

    3) The wastegate was replaced, and relocated. It is now located right next to the turbo.

    4) The oil pump has been replaced (again) I already had replaced my original STS oil pump with a TurboWerks oil pump, but the TurboWerks oil pump was still too noisy for me. Tracy replaced the pump with something a lot smaller, just as powerful, and just as reliable. The oil pump has been relocated to the rear of the car, right next to the turbo. I shouldn't ever have to hear an oil pump again.

    5) I also got an RX Performance Ported Intake/Throttle Body while I was there.

    6) The car of course is going to get re-tuned for everything that has been done.

I'm quite excited to get her back, and I don't need to be embarrassed about my STS Turbo any longer!

Welcome back! Its always nice having mote turbos here. Haha and rear mounted at that.

Do you know what the final numbers were? And what pump did you go with. I have one of the noisey ones lol and does it have a check valve in it?

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

The new turbo is on, and most of work complete, but it's not ready for the dyno yet. I will post the new numbers after I get them back. I don't expect the high end numbers to be a ton higher though. When picking a turbo. I was very insistant on something that spools up fast, and that is what the EFR 7064 was designed for, incredibly fast spool and response.

I was making 360hp on a mustang dyno before. I never had it on a dyno jet, but suppossedly 360 on a mustang dyno is about 400 on a dynojet. We'll see when I get the results, but my focus is going to be on the lower end range, like how fast it spools, and the numbers in the 3k - 4k range. I want to see those numbers increase significantly.

The name of the my new pump escapes me. I will post it once I remember or Tracy lets me know.

Seems like Good choice in Turbo there. How much boost are you running again?

And I expect to see you at the track this year

I'll be running 6lbs and I'm going to stay with the Trifecta tune for now. Vince will be doing the tuning with RX getting him the logs.

You will be happy. I live about 45 mins from RX and they are a good shop.

I got an update from Tracy, and boy is it good news.

My car has always had an issue of running too rich, ever since I had the STS kit put on. One way to attempt to fix that is to keep dialing back the fuel with the tune, which never seemed to work.

Another approach, which is what Tracy did, is to keep upping the boost. My car is now running at 10 lbs and it is still running just a tad rich. Vince is working with a revision right now.

I can't believe that I am getting 10 lbs out of a stock LLT fuel pump. I can't wait to drive this thing. It's going to be worth every penny.

I love Tracy already. I wished he was closer to us. There are very few shops that want to touch a V6, and Tracy is just the opposite. He is actually excited to work on them. The only drawback is he's in Florida :-(

Do you mean the tank pump? The one up front runs at several hundreds of PSI.

No, I mean the turbo boost. Most LLTs are running at 6lbs of boost. I am now running at 10 lbs.

There alot more to tuning a car that is running rich, than just upping the boost. That was an over simplification. The mindset of Tracy was if this thing is getting plenty of fuel, lets give it more air.

Congrats on 10lbs. I wish mine was running like that. I'm the completely opposite.
