  • Autobahn CC - Golden Ticket Day - Lead/Follow

Did some lead follow laps last week as part of a Golden Ticket I was given from the detail shop I've been using for years.

Did many moderate/high speed laps on the North Course. Did not install my track vents for the brakes, so I did start to get some pedal fade -- but nothing that wasn't manageable by coming off the entry speed a little.

Was ~85F this time out, I ran the car in Track Mode with Nannies on. 1/2 of session the trans was in Manual. Latter half it was in Auto w/ PSM Active.

Trans temps were up a bit from RA back in April. Trans hit 220-240F (Man/Auto), from the ~180F previous, Engine Oil was 280F (+10F from RA-- not bad given it was 40F hotter out and much less straights to pick up cooling) and the Engine Coolant was ~190F (nothing there). The front mounted triple engine radiators definitely work.

At RA I only ran in Sport mode. So this time in Track mode I noticed that the trans shifting was a little faster and responsive to me when commanded in manual mode. Steering was harder, which is expected in Tr mode. I didn't feel the MSRC were too firm and they seemed to be OK going over the rumbles and side/side didn't seem to upset it. In Auto mode with Performance Shift Mode active, the car did indeed keep gear and RPM where it should be, even during braking. The one thing I don't like about this mode is you only have a certain time with non-assertive driving before it exits and if you're in traffic on the track with slower cars, you can hit this limit and it'll kick back in to auto mode w/o PSM. So, for me personally, I like the manual mode of the auto -- but, I like that I don't have to worry about heel/toe and it shifts quick enough for me to not be a drag. Since I'm not out to win trophies or slice off hundreths, I don't feel it's hurting me.. AND since I live with this car 98% of the time on the street -- it's a small compromise.

KARR is riding right seat with me during this session. Was a lot of fun, but still learning this track as it's only the second time I've driven it. First time was in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 with XtremeXperience.

For being a factory stock car, minus the Motul RBF600, the Gen6 SS did great on the track and kept up well enough through the outing and other than the brake pedal mush, I didn't have any issues with it. It just kept going lap after lap.

Gen6 1LE variants are going to be a TON of fun for little money. Those of you that track, AutoX, etc should look in to them as they're going to be set up very well. (Given I'm in the slow/heavy version of the SS Coupes and mine is no slouch.)

July 22 2016 -- No track vents installed, street alignment, 85F temps. Ran ~18mi total. Trans temp in manual mode (1st half - 220F), trans temp in auto mode ...

Very cool! I could get hooked on tracking my car pretty easily. Good thing it's not setup for doing that. Like you said, I suspect the 6th Gen 1LE and ZL1 will be pretty awesome.

On my 2010, if it weren't for the coilovers and axles acting up, I'd have done it more. The Maggie I had didn't seem to suffer on longer tracks, but I did notice being down on power during the summer while driving slow.

Road Course is a lot of fun with the right groups and right prep. It just takes time to unlearn some bad DD habits and to trust your car's ability to do what you command of it.
