  • G5 Carbon - SLP575 Bumble Bee

    Hi All,

Some of you know me and I just thought it was time that I actually put my build thread up on this board.

    Posted: 08-21-14

Way back in 2010 I acquired a new SLP575 from the gentleman who purchased my Sema project. The plan was to put it in the trailer to get it home but it was 2" to long. So I said good-bye to Kenny and I jumped in the Camaro with 17 miles on the clock and 1,732 miles later I was home.

The first 1,000 miles was a blast but the last 732 were a bit exhausting. But none the less I made it home in a day & half just in time to grab my daughter and take her to her final diving meet. Looking back I am happy I drove it home which makes it easy to drive it when I want now. I even haul my mountain bike with it from time to time.

When ever I start a build I work with a graphics guy to do a few renderings of what the car may look like when it's complete.

This time I worked with Victor Fulton and I can really excited to show off his work.

Some of you may have already seen the completed rendering as I think I posted it in the new MRR Design Model 228 Wheels thread.

When I saw these wheels I new I wanted a set for the car since I had finally talked myself out of buying a new Z28. Since we only have
two drivers in my house and 5 cars & a trailer. I decided it was time to thin the herd down to one daily driver each and my 1970 & the 2010.

The first modification was the most important.

I needed a trailer hitch so I could haul my mountain bike to the trail. What I like the most about this hitch is you don't have to cut up the car in any way shape or form. Bolts on in about 20 minutes.

The second modification I did was to swap out the wheels & tires.

Okay so now it's time for the fun to begin on the car and try to get rid on the sloppy ride and handling.

After talking with the guys at LG Motorsports and explaining to them that I wanted a very simple brain dead get in it an drive suspension I began collecting
parts for the suspension. Due to the fact that Pfadt had just gone out of business I needed to source the parts from various vendors.

The fist upgrade was going to be be wheels & tires which I ordered from LG Motorsports. I picked up a staggered set of there ZR28 wheels.

I had them mounted with the Goodyear Eagle F1 which are standard on the ZL1.

You can see the difference from the Goodyears to the Nittos

difference in the front tires can be seen here.

okay I have learned that swapping wheels on a 4 post sucks. I really need to get the sliding jack.

I almost forgot the guys at Apex Motosports supplied the Gorrilla locks for the wheels.

          Old vs New

and this time I swapped the lugs on the ground using this little tool from the guys at ZL1 Add-Ons. Sure did make life easier this time around.

One of things that has driven me crazy since I acquired the car was the mis-matched calipers.

Bobby at LG Motorsports was able to get me the matching rear caliper and mounting bracket for the rear so this was
one of the first modifications that I planned to do.

This is the front brake kit that was installed on the car as part of the SLP Package.

Since the front tires are so sticky I needed to add a set of splash guards to the front fenders. I picked these up from Showtime and install took about 5 minutes.

The next step was to start collecting all the parts needed for the suspension modifications. Pfadt had just closed there doors when I started collecting the parts so I had to get all the parts from various vendors. I want to thank all of them for helping because if they didn't have the part they said to try one of the other guys and I was able to get all the parts I needed.

Next up was to locate a set of Recaro seats for the car and lucky me a set of seats became available on this forum.

They are basically brand new as the passenger seat was only sat in few times and the drivers seat had a new hyde installed
as well as a seat cushion prior to them being shipped to me.

Here is what they actually look like. (not actual seat factory photo)

I accidentally bought a 1le front Splitter from G5 Carbon for the car.

Still not sure how it happened but I am really happy I have it.

Just in case people don't think I actually use my car in the summer. Here are a few pics of it hauling my bike.

yes I was also just as muddy and thank God for the giant towel I found in the trunk as it kept my seat from getting covered in mud

Quickly trying to catch this thread up.

The goal was to get all of these parts installed on the car prior to the Power Tour and with only a week to go and
working 60 - 70 hours a week I needed to call the Guys at Super Car Performance in Minooka, IL.

I had already purchased the Sway Bars from them and they said if I ever needed anything to just call them so that is exactly
what I did. Scott and I talked for about 30 minutes to set up a game plan and a time for me to drop off the car. They had 5 days
to do all of the work and before Mike & I were going to leave on the Power Tour and they pulled it off with 1 day to spare.

Last piece of the puzzle was the cradle bushings and I was able to get these from a member on the Camaro5 board.

Parts getting ready to be installed.

To be painted ZL1 Rockers to replace the GM rockers & 1LE Rear Diffuser which is no longer going to be used.

and these were going on but someone needed them for his car so I was kind enough to sell them mine.

Rear Cradle back in with the new bushing

Rear Suspension installed and the new rear Calipers

June of 2014 (one week before the power tour)

The Guys at Super Car Performance (www.supercarperformance.com) wrapped up the installation of the JDP Remote Clutch
Slave Cylinder and it made a huge difference on the feel of the clutch pedal.

                            my favorite picture

Car on the ground and ready to leave on the Power Tour with 24 hours to spare.

and of course the first day of school

since it was raining I decided I would wash the car before we left.

I can't tell you how happy I am with the guys at Super Car Performance they said they would get the work completed and they did and it was under budget on top of that.
