There will be 3 of us in a black Monte Carlo SS since person number 3 refuses to ride in the backseat of a Camaro convertible for some reason. See everyone at noon tomorrow.

Quaker Steak and Lube Lunch/Cruise - Sunday, September 3

We started the day at Quaker Steak & Lube, a car/racing themed restaurant. They even had an Indy car out front, motorcycles hanging from the ceiling, and a Plymouth Prowler on a lift inside the restaurant. Lunch entrees ranged from burgers and salads to steaks. A few people left at assorted times during the day. But those that stayed got to see The Old Lighthouse Museum in Michigan City which provided a brief history of lighthouses, a display on the Eastland, and the tower light room which offered a 360 degree view of the harbor, the river, and even some cars leaving a car show. Some sharp eyes spotted a 1956 Packard Clipper, 1956 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 1975 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, some tri-five Chevys, and some other assorted cars. After the museum we drove past the Barker Mansion on the way to Chesterton for a wine tasting at Butler Winery. $3 for six tastings! Can't beat that. Next we headed to The Port drive-in diner for milkshakes and a burger. They have over 50 flavors of milkshakes at The Port. I went with a Green River milkshake. Something that used to be common in the Chicago area decades ago, but is no longer easy to find. We finished up the day with a scenic drive along Route 12 and the Dunes and forest preserve. We even caught a glimpse of the historic South Shore Electric heading back to South Bend before we jumped on the expressway and headed home.
Thanks to all that came out. And for those that didn't, next time pull the Camaro out of the garage and join the fun.
