Cruise To Starved Rock Lodge for Lunch !

JohnnyO, Verno and I thought with the fall colors and the awesome roads that this may be a really scenic cruise for the club on a Sunday .

Verno did a great job putting together a route that looks like it will be a nice drive.

These guys have some experience with the routes down there so I said , Lets Do It !

I posted below a picture of the Designated Route we are taking to get there and also some suggested Routes back home depending upon where you live.

Of course you are free to take your own way home depending upon where you live.

First Pick Up Point and leave time will be at 10:00 A.M. at Shell Station , 600 W. North Ave. It's at the intersection with Route 53
there is a huge parking lot immediately behind the shell station, (Brauer House) so we will line up after you gas up in that parking lot to pass out materials and discuss the route before we leave.
Second Meet point Route 55 and Route 6 at the BP McDonalds
11:00-11:15 my estimation at arrival at second pick up point. We Probably will be there as early as 11:00 or as late as 11:15. Anyone that wants to meet at the second pick up point please plan on being there at 11:00.

A 10:00 leave time at the first meet point should be late enough so no one has excuses its too early, or they want a reasonable leave time, and you know who you are. LOL

Estimated time of arrival 12:30 with a few stops along the way to pick up more members,

Lunch is at 1:30 sharp ! They will only hold our reservation for 15 minutes so we do have to be on time.

We will be eating lunch at the Lodge . it's a Brunch , $15.95 adult and $8.00 for kids 10 years old and under?
Seating is limited so I need an accurate head count !

We currently have reservations for 45 people, so please dont wait until the last minute to sign up.

    I hope you all can make it;

Route is attached at the bottom. Route 355 to 55 to Route 6........
    Different return route for some

    The Following Directions are HERE.
You will obtain a print version at the First Meet point.
I will be up front behind VernO who is going to take lead. NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. We are not in a race and I will make sure that I slow things down if necessary so everyone is together. if need be, we will find spots to pull over from time to time to insure we don't lose anyone at the tail end. Passing other vehicles in the line will NOT BE ALLOWED. We will be on some very twisty two lane roads where it will be dangerous to pass. So pick who you want in front and behind you and stick with it PLEASE.

Driving directions for cruise going .

The printed ones you receive at the first meet WILL be more beneficial to you they will have mileage if I don't get a chance to post them here and some other good info.

First Meet point is Shell Station 600 W. North Ave. Lombard, IL. we will probably line up in the parking lot immediately adjacent to the station.

Take North Ave. west to 355 Ramp southbound, its on your left after you pass over the expressway

Head south on 355 to 55

    Exit 55 south

Take 55 south to route 6 turn right to go westbound

Second meet point -BP Amoco station is on your left. there is a street that runs around the back end of the station that you will actually turn left on because of the meridian strip in the road.

You will be getting a picture at the first meet point which will show you how we are going to enter and exit the BP Amoco station/McDonalds

    From BP Amoco station

We may actually pull over down the road at a business location I have scoped out on the ariel views to make sure everyone got out of the BP Amoco/McDonalds and are with us.

    Continue route 6 west

Take route 6 Southwest to McLinden Rd turn left

we may pull over on McLinden Road if we lost the tail end of the group so we can regroup

Take McLinden Rd. Until Cemetery Rd. Turn right on Cemetery Rd. to go west and stay on Cemetery road until
E Washington Street, Turn Left (Southwest)

Continue on E Washington St until Route 47

Turn left to head south on route 47

Take route 47 south to w. DuPont rd. (route 6 )and exit right to go west on w. DuPont rd.(route 6)

Take w DuPont Rd. Until you reach River Rd. turn right on River Rd.

    And pass route 170 .

Continue west on River Rd. until it turns into N 2553rd Rd.

Continue west on N 2553rd road to route 30

Turn right on Route 30 which is also called N2653rd Rd.

Continue west on route 30 until it turns into Gentleman-Trumbo Rd.

Continue west on Gentleman- Trumbo Rd./ N2653rd Rd. At this point this road has also picked up a route 55 designation
Continue west on this road until it is now called Trumbo Rd. ( he is not a gentleman any longer)
(The Gentleman broke off at E 194th Rd and is now a different road to the north)

Continue on Trumbo Rd. /Route 55 until you reach route 23

Turn right on 23 and head north to route 71/Hitt St.

Turn left to go west on route 71/Hitt St.

Continue on route 71 westbound to E 875th Rd. Turn right (North) to Starved Rock Lodge entrance on your right.

As of yet, we do not have any preferred parking arrangements. its just too difficult to get at his place. I am hopeful that With only 23 cars we should not be in too bad of shape. At this time of the year they are very busy but by 1;00 it may start to empty a bit. We are going to try the convention center parking area first. You will have to grab a spot when you see one. Parking together may be better accomplished in the overflow lot but it is much further down the road and a gravel lot so we are going to try the convention center parking Lot First because its closer and paved. there is also parking available in the visitors center which is at a lower level from the lodge. I will be leading us all into the convention center lot first to see what everyone can find.

    Return Route.
You have a multitude of Return Routes at your disposal.
Return Routes are entirely at your discretion.
    You could take expressways back.
    Route 178 North to I 80 east to 355
    Or Route 178 North To I 80 west to I 39 North to I 88 eastbound

Or you could take some country roads that some of our members may be taking like
Route 178 north to Route 71 turn right and go to Route 47 turn left (Northbound)
and proceed to Green Rd. turn right (northeast) and go to Hughes Rd and turn right (east)
And proceed to Fabian Parkway and turn left (east)
And proceed towards Randall Rd, Routes 31 or 25 ect.

I'll be at Starved Rock Oct. 8 and 9 for a work conference. Always beautiful scenery that time of year and the Lodge has great food.

It would be hard for us to meet up and cruise since we live North West of Utica. We will see what we can do.

    Great choice guys.

Steve, the 1st meet spot is Rohlwing and North Ave in Lombard at the Shell station on the north west corner. There is a McDonalds across the street if you're craving an early Big Mac.
