I kinda want to race, but I don't know what I need as far as safety equipment? I can only assume I'd need a helmet. Does it have to be a brand new helmet? My brother has one he bought in like 2003 - I'm not planning on being out of the 15's probably - so not sure all of what I need.

Usually yes all they will look for is a helmet. Mine is also a few years old so it works up at GLD and I have heard that's all I need. I have also heard they rent helmets too. I will bring a couple extra just in case as well.

If you're over 13.999 you don't need a helmet. If you need one, it needs to be sa2005 or later. Generally with the v6 you don't need the helmet.
