I belong to several different clubs, so attendance varies with every club. One club (X), we have had awesome driving tours, free picnics, free catered dinners, overnight tours, close events, far events, and hardly anyone shows up. Yet the national organization for that club is very active, just local Illinois members are not willing to do stuff. However, for a spring driving tour and picnic this year, a record number of people showed up after years of lousy attendance. Go figure.

Another club (Y) charges $10 for coffee and donuts at the starting location, drives somewhere unexciting, admission on your own, has lunch or dinner pay on your own, and 40 people show up.

So for club (X), we plan stuff we want to do whether anyone shows up or not, and avoid anything with minimum attendance required or special reservations, and anything that has to be prepaid. So whether 1,6, or 20 people show up, we can still have a good time. Club Y doesn't need to worry too much about attendance.

This club seems to usually have pretty decent turnout, so I do not see attendance being too much of a concern. What is considered a low turnout here, we would be thrilled with at club X

As far as paid events, that can be handled in different ways. Usually if there is an admission or meal, you can just have everyone pay on their own when they get there. Just let people know this in advance. Something that requires a special reservation and prepayment can also be done. You just have whoever is attending register and pay in advance. You can even have a graduated fee based on how early people register, but even with that, you will still get a large number registering at the last minute. However, in most cases, it is best to avoid places that require this, especially if you are not sure about attendance. Depending on what is being done, you can even give people the option of joining in a particular event, or time on their own instead.

As far as a Lake Geneva boat cruise, I looked into that myself and decided against it when we went. The price seems pretty high for just going in a circle around the lake, and they prefer advance reservations. If people are really interested in a boat cruise, I think there are better options elsewhere for that.

As far as the surveys, I only found out about the club late last year, and didn't send one back because I didn't think I attended enough stuff to comment. This year I didn't get one. But you are hearing from me now
