  • 2014 Sat, 9/27/14 - Gilmore Car Museum with Detroit 5th Gen Club

    Updated with Later Arrival Time

I wanted to get this information out to the club so everyone could make their plans as early as possible. We have been invited by the Detroit 5th Gen club to join/meet-up with them on one of their events. See event information below.

    EVENT DATE: September 27th
LOCATION: Gilmore Car Museum, Kalamazoo, MI
MUSEUM MEET UP TIME: 12pm Illinois (1pm Michigan)

Special parking for the group will be in front of the Diner in the grass, basically car show style for everyone else there to see our rides.

I encourage you to visit the museum's website @ http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/ to get a feel for what's there. It looks to be approximately 150 miles/2 ½ hours or so depending on the departure location. We can determine a meet-up location (probably east side) and time to leave from and drive up as a group. There should be enough people between the two clubs to qualify for the group rate of $10.

Description from the Gilmore Site: On a 90-acre historic campus midway between Detroit and Chicago is the Gilmore Car Museum. Here, visitors shoot the breeze in an old-fashioned gas station. Children stand inches from a 1930 Rolls-Royce that's from a Disney® movie. Grandparents share stories about a '57 Chevy, as their smiles are reflected in the car's chrome. Stroll the campus. Eat lunch in our authentic Blue Moon Diner. Walk right up to an amazing collection of over 300 vintage automobiles, motorcycles, and memories. It's America's Signature Collection. And the ultimate experience for everyone in your family.

It's looking like I'm not going to be able to go because I already have plans for that weekend, but if something changes, I will be there. I did however, want to get this out to everyone so you can make your plans. Again, it's a good opportunity to join some fellow 5th Gen people from the Motor City and talk all things Camaro and look at some amazing car history. Who doesn't like to do that?

I'll update the post with more information as it becomes available. Thanks to Angelo (lohayes4) from Detroit 5th Gen for inviting us.

Thanks for reading and post up if you're interested.

Wow. That's early. I'd need to get there the day before as it's 4 hours from me. Heh

I hear ya, Tony. Realistically, 5+ hours for me so I would have to go partial way the night before and meet at the designated location in Chicago area Saturday morning. Or, and early wake up call for my neighbors that day.

I don't see any harm in showing up a little later if that's the preference for everyone.

              Hello Everyone,

I have made arrangements with the Baymont Inn and Suites in Kalamazoo Michigan for rooms for anyone who wishes to arrive on Friday September 26th and wishes to stay over on Saturday night

The Room rate is $89.00 plus tax for each night Friday and Saturday. They have a lot of rooms available right now, however they have many other things that are going on in Kalamazoo that weekend and things may fill up fast. If interested call (269) 372-7999 and ask for Amanda and tell her that you are with the 5th Gen Camaro Club.

Although the Meet up time is scheduled for 9:30am Chicago time, we will be there until 6:00pm Detroit time. Therefore if anyone shows up later that would be fine also.

This is not just a Detroit5thGen Event it is a Joint Club Event specifically for both clubs to meet one another. I will post parking information soon.

              Thanks Angelo

Looks like we could get there later.

Would more people be interested if we rolled in around lunch time?

We can also leave a little later in the morning if that's more accommodating for everyone.

Event is next weekend so if you plan to go, please post up. With my wife's fall and broken elbows, I won't be able to make it up there. My bike trip was cancelled as well. Would be nice to get a few people to join the Detroit Club for this event. Maybe we can coordinate some joint ventures next year as well.

                              Thanks!
