  • Sturgis Camaro Rally

I know a few people went to this last year so maybe they can chime in on whether they recommend it or not.

Looks like a good event. http://www.sturgiscamarorally.com/

I've been to the Sturgis area a few times and can test to the fact that they have great roads to drive on. Anyone interested this year?

14 hour drive? I might be up for this. Always wanted to hit the Black Hills. Would be cool to do it with a bunch of Camaro's! I will let you know.

Where did you stay? They only have one hotel, a Holiday Inn listed on the event website and it's sold out.

The day before we stayed in the town right before Sturgis plenty of hotels there & the drive to Sturgis from there was about 20 min probably faster in your jet = ) then the remainder of the rally we stayed at the campgrounds in cool little air conditioned cabin. We took Jim's Camaro and just put the car cover on it at night. We were surrounded by other 5th Gens so we were in good company. Nice trip the photographer for all the rally's came out & did a photo shoot on Jim's car after the rally so the streets were empty it was totally cool.

Sounds cool. Do you remember the name of the campground?

Yep...it was the Days End campground. Also you gotta check out the Full Throttle Saloon..of course when we went there they were cleaning up to open for the season. Its close to the dragstrip which was short but also cool they let you go down as many times you want alone or against someone. Hope this is helpful.

We went. We registered late and stayed at the Days Inn across from the Holiday Inn. Great roads, fun people to hang with, beautiful scenery, lots of activities if you desire...I totally recommend it. You could stay at either the Days Inn or the Super 8. The Super 8 looked a little less run down to me. There is a car wash a couple of blocks east of the hotels. If you don't like those options, try Deadwood. There are a couple of hotels on the outskirts that look like they would be pretty nice. Try to see the Devils Tower, and run the loop around Mt Rushmore in both directions (Needles/Iron Mtn).
                  Enjoy!

That's good to know, thanks! Deadwood is a Casino area from what I remember and in doing some quick searching, their motels are super expensive. I just need to devote more time to my searching. Have some time yet.

As far as the Days End Campground, they haven't returned my email and I've called with no one answering the phone. Their message is a month old and no way to leave voicemail. Not sure what the deal is. Maybe they're snowed in or out in this case. Anyhow, I'll keep trying until I get in touch with someone.

I've done a little searching for motel rooms and everything is there is really expensive. If someone else has a suggestion or finds something, post up.

Sorry you're not getting a reply, they are closed for the season. Jim said it took them a bit to return his emails & calls. He didn't get a reply until the end of April or so. Sorry again I didn't know they were closed when I gave you the information = (
