Mine is being carried over from last year and HOPING to hit that 10.99 pass. I was so close last year so with the tweaks i am making, lets see if it happens.!

Since you have a v6 you won't be going fast enough to need a helmet, per the NHRA.

All Camaro5Fest driving activities require a helmet regardless of speed.

my dad & I are very interested in attending this in August. My dad has a few questions though so if someone can help me answer them for him..
first, for the drag strip, is there insurance for the cars in case of an accident? or do u get insurance for the strip somehow?
second, do you need/recommend a helmet for the drag strip?
lastly, how does everything work at Camaro5Fest? like how does the agenda go for the three days?

I'll add to Toasty and T's great insight and suggestions. If you love your Camaro as I think you do, you don't want to miss this opportunity to attend the national fest that is so close to us. You'll have a blast whether you race or not. Put back some coin for all the vendors there too.

I'm sure this year the fest will be even better than last year because of the repeat location. Lastly, if you are even thinking of it, make your reservations at the host hotel now because that's where all the action is. You can cancel reservation later if you decide not to go.

If you can drive in a straight line you will not need extra insurance but your normal insurance will NOT cover you on the track. You can buy it but you really won't need it.

If you have never been down a 1/4 drag strip before, or it has been a while, take a look at this post for some tips from some of us that have done it and are well versed.

Last year Lingenfelter had a drag racing class at C4Fest. Maybe they will do it again and you can check it out. Your best bet though is go to a local test and tune and practice before going to Indy.

If it's like last year, and I suspect it is, they are requiring EVERYBODY to wear a helmet, above and beyond NHRA rules. Something about cheaper insurance for the event.

Sad i missed last year didnt have enough vacation time. Since i got denied vacation time for the power tour this year this will be one of my events. Im looking forward to going.

Not hitting power this year either. Too far south. Doing SMN in Duquion . Been a few years should be a blast .

I'll relay the information to my dad and hopefully by the end of the week have our hotel room reserved. & SYCK SS, I will probably take you up on that offer to go up to the drag strip before hand to get a few runs in for practice, it would definitely be fun. One last question regarding helmets, what kind of helmets do they require (rating/spec wise; Snell, DOT, etc..)? Thanks again!

To be honest, I am not sure how the insurance/coverage is, but I suspect that you may be on your own. I didn't race last year, so not entirely sure.

You will need a helmet, should be NHRA rules, but everybody has to have a helmet. They'll likely post the requirements soon, if they're not already.

The schedule has not been posted as of yet, but typically Friday and saturday are filled with hanging out and/or racing. It sounds like they dont want to do both autocross and drags at the same time, though.

You can share your "special" helmet... hehehehe

SA2005 or SA2010. I bought a G Force helmet last year because they said no motorcycle helmets. You can get an open face racing helmet for around $200.

SA 2005 will be expiring soon, I think 2015, I would suggest a SA 2010 as it will be valid longer, 2020. I also suggest a full face helmet. In the event you need it it is much better protection and better safe than sorry.

There is a place in Barrington, Northstar, that has them in stock so you can try them on to see what size fits you and your dad. They offer good deals or you can find one elsewhere but at least you will know your size.
