  • NW Suburbs Cruise Routes

Took this today and it was a nice ride. A bit more twisty would be cool, but, I think I need to get out to Route 2 for that.

I've mapped out and drove this route a few times last summer. It's about a 2 hour cruise from Kenosha to Lake Geneva starting out at the Mars Cheese Castle. Adding in a restroom break at Bushnell Park in Burlington and stopping for gas in Lyons, the total cruise time is around 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on how long you stop for. There's some great photo ops at Bushnell Park.

The cruise starts out in rolling Kenosha County farmland as the backdrop with really nice straight open road with a few quick turns are throw in. The course then winds on some tree lined Rustic Roads with a few more tight turns. After stopping at Bushnell Park in Burlington, it gets even more fun with rolling glacial hills added to the mix in a north then south loop. A quick cruise through more farmland leads to a fuel stop in Lyons. From there its advised for your passenger to don their barf bag as the hills and turns are intensified. Towards the end, and one of my favorite spots, is the cruise down Back Road where mixed with hills are 4 very tight consecutive 45 degree turns. And if your passenger is ready with the camera its possible to get a shot of all the cars as they wind through those turns. After Back Road, your heart gets a rest and your passenger gets to breathe again for the short distance to Lake Geneva.

So anyway, anyone is free to use my map if they would like to try the route alone, but I think it would be a lot of fun to cruise as a group ending with lunch and an afternoon in Lake Genveva. Thoughts?

That's a good point as parking can be challenging in Lake Geneva but I don't think it's a killer. There are a few possible solutions for a group of cars. There's the Eastview Elementary school parking lot which is open to the public and large. There's also a large, mostly unused parking lot at the YMCA. We might be able to arrange parking there with a per car donation. Both of those options are only a 1/4 mile walk from downtown. Some other businesses have large lots that we might be able to park in as well, particularly if we work with the LG CVB.

Twice, the Grand Geneva allowed a group of us, about 30 or so cars, to park right in front of the hotel. The catch was we all ate in their restaurant.
