They should have charged for the food and given the money to the charity. That's what most dealers do for a show, that I've experienced. Gluttony not a problem then either.sigpic

As far as food was concerned, Yeah, it was very poorly run. I saw multiple people with 3-4 burgers, I saw a couple with 2 plates of burgers and hotdogs. That's just absurd.*** Signature Under Construction ***

When I politely asked if they were all out of food and drinks, the dealership fella just said, "yep". Nothing even approaching an apology lol. No eye contact either. This is right after I saw the giant platter of burgers go inside the store. I was so hungry by that point, I could have eaten several of my fingers. (I chose not to do this because I imagined that would make it harder to drive.)

They should have given tickets out for the food. I saw a bunch of people that weren't in the show (I know because I saw them pull in and leave in the cars) and had there family of 5 or more in line and as previously stated, taking enough food for lunch and dinner. As for the old versus new cars, I would agree that the numbers Altma put up were correct. 2 5th gen Camaro's and a mustang. That's it. They really should have categorized the entries. There was a guy there with a pretty cool bike. Was there the whole show and should have won in that category. Whomever ran that show (Rudy K I believe) needs to completely revamp it. I also probably wouldn't go to another one there.2012 VR 1LT RS

well i never expect free food at a car show so i would not get upset about that. i got to say guys how many times have you ever got free food at a show, i never have and i have been to more shows then i can count. i am not saying that those who took advantage should not have cause they clearly should not. rudy k i dont think had anything to do with the food. tht was the dealership throwing in something for nothing so i would put it in the column don't look a gift horse in the mouth. i was not expecting any food At all. In fact the GM himself was working the grill for a long time so I will say they did care about the participants in the show. As far as the trophies or catAgories, it was participant voting and as we know many times thats nothing more then a popularity contest. i really was not even going to compete cause i got there so late and you know what happens when you get there in the last hour before registration closes everyone gets mad at you and no one votes for you regardless if u had a good excuse for being late. I did make a point to tell the guy at 8:30 before I went to my kids football game that I thought we had 7 Camaros coming from our group and I would be back at 11:30, but with participant voting, I knew what the outcome would be. that's why I try and only go to professionally judged shows nowadays with a few exceptions for charities or if I am itching to talk to my fellow C5G members. I too would expect at a Chevy dealership show the categories would be set up to make it more fair I guess.
Sorry if I upset anyone with my repsonse here.Last edited by Lawdog; 09-29-2014, 10:52 PM.

I have certainly participated in more shows where more awards go to the Classic Cars. Like Bill commented, this is extremely the case when it's participant vote. The dominating group of people vote for each other. Most recently, my Central Illinois Camaro group went to a charity show put on by a club made up of mostly "classic cars". We rolled in with 5 beautiful 5th gens and there were a couple of newer Vette's and a few Mustangs as well. There were less than a 100 cars and top 50 got awards with participant vote. Nothing over 1972 got anything. I lost count at the amount of times I heard 55 or 57 Chevy. The funny thing was, we had a large amount of people stop by our cars looking and throwing out compliments. A number of the club members came by and said how much they appreciated us coming to the show. Still....no love come award time. That's just the way it goes. It's happened more than I can even count. If i'm really looking for an award out of the show, I don't dare go unless they have a class that includes my year. Doesn't guarantee it will not be a popularity vote, but at least you have a chance. That's my .02 worth on it.
I mostly pay more attention to the charity than I do anything else. That's what will get me there, not the award.sigpic

I've only been to a handful of car shows and every one of those had some sort of food. I don't expect it, but if it is there, it is relatively simple to do it right. Never seen a shortage before though. This was beyond a shortage though, this was greed and gluttony with no one maintaining control, and no apologies after the fact. It was the platter of burgers walking into the dealership and then saying there were none that gets my goat. I can say with 100% certainty that if that had been Phillips Chevy, the owner would personally have gone down the street to make sure there was enough for the show participants. It was the lack of control and the smugness that rubbed me wrong. That's my 2 cents.
I should note that I waited for 30 minutes in that food line, only to see a giant platter walk past me, into the showroom for the employees immediately before I got to the table.

I just want to clarify something in my previous post. I LOVE classic muscle cars, especially 55-57 Chevy's, early Camaros, Impalas, Nova, Chevelles, GTO's, Firebirds, Mustangs, Challengers, and so on. I also appreciate the amont of work people put in to restoring them and making them look great. I can look at classic cars all day.
My previous post did not indicate that. That's all.sigpic

As you note, this is not meant as a "sour grapes" statement. There were a lot of awesome vintage, classic and street rod cars there.
Here is an example: I know that I got at least two votes from participants who did even see my cars, but knew me, because as walked by their cars (classics) they ask what numbers were mine and mark their ballots. Not right!
