    Last night I was going out and cruising in my 74 camaro. Noticed the engine missing. All of a sudden, the temp guage shot up.
    Go home. Checked the coolant. It was empty.
    I then had a bad feeling and checked the oil. Unfortunately I found the coolant.
    It was in my oil pan***128545;
    So, either I blow the head gasket or a cracked block.
    Do I spend the money to tear down the engine, or start looking for a new one?
    Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts, or someone that could help.
    It was a Chevy 350 SB.
    Thanks all for listening.***128546;

    Well that is sad indeed.
    My experience in rebuilding engines is expect the Costs to be about 1/3 above the original quote. After you get in there, you will always have another item that you did not think about replacing/reworking and sometimes it's just like well we are three bolts from removing that and you know it might be worn also so let's just replace that...........
    It would be cheaper to drop a rebuilt in it.
    If your not worried about keeping it original numbers for resale, and you plan on keeping the car a long time, that's what I would do.
    Your basically comparing the costs for the rebuilding of he engine with the costs of buying an engine cause the labor to remove and replace is a common expense to both jobs.

      Thanks for the reply. I not worried about the numbers. Just want to get my car running again. Probably looking at getting a quality rebuilt.

          Head gasket is only about $100 in parts, as long as you can do the work, Dave said its a simple rebuild as long as you didn't drive it that way for to long. If you have questions, shoot me a pm!!

              Ouch!

              Replacement crate engines running at least 1500, short blocks less, of course
