When we are out on our cruises, we usually use regular walkie-talkies, but, it often happens that the range on those it not enough to reach from one end of the group to the other. 
In this case, we usually place people at the ends and they use Zello, a cool, PTT app for smartphones.
I've found a neat, Bluetooth handset that can be set up to work with Zello just like a walkie...
You could clip this to your seat belt and just hit the button to talk. No need to touch your phone!

). It's also surprisingly heavy, which, I think, is due to the long-life, rechargeable battery pack. Very sturdy construction, too.
