Ok what happened to guns in the United States over the last 10 years? Everything is rails, freakin' lasers, polymer something or another, surefire flashlights, and a shit ton of velcro! Everyone went tactical and thinks they're SEAL Team 6.

      It's a brave new world I suppose.

Do they still make old school 1911's and M14's? How about a Winchester lever action 30/30?

I chose my Glock 17C 9mm because it's light, accurate, and easy to take apart to clean. For paper target killing, 9mm is the cheapest way to go and more comfortable to squeeze off 200 rounds at GAT guns. Learn to shoot without a laser...they aren't good for target shooting from what I've seen from other shooters.

I buy lots of stuff from Bud's Guns online. Cabela's and Gander Mountain will surprise you now and then with a good buy, but not too often.

You NEVER want to use a laser in your own house or on your property. You are giving away your location, which is a pretty big advantage to lose.

Make sure you do your research on the IL ST Police web site before you sign up for a CCW class...if you choose to go that route eventually. There are a TON of scammers out there that are taking peoples money and are NOT certified by the state.

Prices for CCW classes vary widely. My CCW class was $150. Pelcher's in Lansing charges $375!!!

My Uncle & I run a little gun and ammo business. We can pretty much beat any price by $25 to $50 dollars and save you on taxes. He's based out of Leroy IL tax only 6.50% or maybe even 6.25%

Hit me up and i might be able to help. We are certified FFl lic and He's a conceal carry instructor. I have my Utah and have applied for ILL already, waiting to get card.

              Thanks !

Zeus I'll send you a PM when I get my card. I'll probably just get a 9 mil. for home but we'll talk. Rifle's are my favorite for range fun so I might purchase one.

When you get your weapon it will be search and destroy! :-) While at GAT, look at their used guns too - stay away from the service pieces. You can tell by the heavy wear on them (holster marks).

What do you all think of Taurus? Are their guns any good?

I have one Taurus gun, works fine, but it is a revolver, so not much to go wrong. Taurus is a very polarizing brand. Some guys hate them, some guys love them. I have not had a Taurus semi-auto, so I don't have an opinion either way about that, but my revolver shoots fine. (It is my .44 magnum that I like to carry while hiking in the mountains, a backup to the bear spray. We did surprise a cougar once, which was cool, but never saw a brown bear.)
