  • Well this totally sucks

Next month I'm going in for surgery to repair a slap tear in my right shoulder and possibly reconnect the bicep. I'll be in a sling until August. That should be a hoot This is from the motorcycle accident last year. The soonest I'll be back driving my ZL1 is August. Dammit!

Doctors also said no more hockey for me either. Like never. After suffering 14 concussions I'm on the verge of thinking I'm Ethel Merman or Porky Pig, which I suppose isn't too bad. I'm partial to Marv the Martian myself.

Consider me a maybe for any events you folks line up for this season. Super Fast Freaking Freddie said he will drag me along for an event or 2 because he's cool like that but just wanted to let you all know I haven't left the club I'm just on injured reserve for now.

Oh and remember children...pussy cat is watching you!

Again, sorry about this bro. Hopefully you'll get all this done and feel much better afterward. Ethel Merman, Porky Pig or Marv the Martian is okay, just not Charles Manson.

Keep us up to date on how the surgery goes and your progress. And oh, I'll drive that ZL1 anytime so that it doesn't feel neglected.

i too offered to drive the ZL1 whenever needed. Even track events. Just would feel horrible to have all that work done to not see you pop up on the fast list behind my name somewhere ;-)

But in all seriousness, so sorry to hear this and i wish you the best of luck. Surgeries are no fun, especially shoulder surgery.

You guys are welcome to drive my ZL1. I'll just ride shotgun and you guys can park your cars in my garage. I'm serious.

What makes your shoulder issue so bad? I had a torn biceps in my right shoulder a few years back and to top it off, it was frozen as well, which meant they had to scrap out all of the scare and tissue buildup. I was back to work (immobilized in a sling) within 2 weeks, and I could certainly drive a car. Now if you I had a stick shift, it probably would have been more like 6 weeks to drive. Did the doctor specifically tell you you couldn't drive for that long? I could see not racing? On another note, when you get the surgery, ask them if they can do a nerve block on you, instead of a local. I promise you brother, it's the only way to go if you can. They did that for me and I felt no pain AT ALL for a couple of days. By then, the worst of the pain was over with. Something to think about. Good luck buddy.

They're rebuilding the shoulder joint. I'm getting pins and screws and all that fun stuff. When the doctor explained it to me I just said "oh I see! You want to Frankenstein my shoulder!"

That's pretty much what they are doing and for it all to be successful I have to follow through with the rehab which means I'm going to be bored as hell for at least 6 months. It's a lot more than a tissue tear and I can't challenge it. The doctor doing the surgery is the Bears orthopedic surgeon so if this kind of thing puts the pro athlete's down for 6 months I'm pretty sure it'll be the same for me.

A SLAP tear is an injury to the labrum of the shoulder, which is the ring of cartilage that surrounds the socket of the shoulder joint. Injuries to the superior labrum can be caused by acute trauma or by repetitive shoulder motion.

I suppose I could shift with my left hand or train my Pitbull to do it for me. That would be pretty cool actually.
