Hello everyone, A friend of mine went out of town for three weeks and was nice enough to lend me his 2001 Electric glide with 43K on it. Before I get to the question I want to say that I owned a BMW motorcycle for about 10 years and never had a problem, however I did the maintenance myself. Now i never road a Harley for any extended period of time, just maybe around the block. Anyway I picked up the bike yesterday morning about 50 miles from my house and let me tell you this bike rode like a dream on the expressway, I instantly fell in love with it! Now the bad part .....I paid my toll and started accelerating when all sudden bike went neutral :-( I pulled off to the side of the road and noticed I blew the final drive belt! I called a tow truck and had it towed to my garage. I started Looking up the job to replace the belt on the Internet and it does not look to difficult to replace. I would try to tackle this job on my own but I had wrist surgery three weeks ago and I don't have full strength on my right hand. Is there anyone of you that knows someone that repairs Harley's? My suggestion would be to take it a Harley Dealer since it's your buddy's bike. That way, if there's any issue down the road, it doesn't fall on something you did wrong. Piece of mind for you too.
Agree with your comment on how the big Harley baggers ride on the open road. Love mine!sigpic

ive worked on hd s and to replace the drive belt is the easy part, its removing all the cargo stuffside belt cover + if you don't have a bike hoist this is not a fun for a 1st timer did the belt lose some nubs or totally break? they do make a nub kit to fix a few missing nebs sorry I sold my lift other wise I could fix it about in a few hrs

ive seen this happen on bike after tire replacement done the two rear tention bolts are to tight causing belt to heat up, if this is the case a dealer did not use a slack tool I call it most likely his fingers it very rare the internal drive sprocket caused this, and again belts do ware out like serperteen on cars this is always over looked on HDs hope this helped you out ask friend about his last ck up !!!
