    CNC machining

    I'm looking for someone ,relatively local, that can do CNC machining.
    I made a wood proto-type of a piece, but I need to find out what it would cost to have it machined out of Aluminum or even a heat resistant plastic.
    It is about 12 inches by 3.5 inches by 1 inch.

      Is this a one-off piece, or are you planning on producing many? If you're only making a few you might be able to make your own from fiberglass and use the wooden prototype as the mold plug. I did this for making NACA ducts on my belly pan. Although I started with a plastic piece and made a mold plug from that. I researched on the web different methods of making your own parts from different materials. Lots of options for the DIY.

      As for a CNC shop, I can ask my buddies at SuperCar in Minooka who they recommend. They have dealt with a lot of shops over the years building cars and engines.

        Can you pm me a photo? If its simple I may be able to do it. Our machines are usually busy, but if its simple I may be able to sneak it in. There is an online machine shop, I'll look for the link.

          Most places will want a drawing or CAD file. Expect to pay for one if you don't have it.

          Molding may be a great option for you. There are kits at hobby stores.

            We can probably knock it out on a bridgport mill , or get it laser cut, how many do you need , is it a one shot prototype or are you lookingto mass produce. Send me a pm. If you really need it CNC, I can get that done for you as well.

              I had designed a license plate bracket for my car. I had planned to sell them, then decided there wouldn't be enough profit margin to warrant the hassle. So I just one offed one for myself
