It's been a while since I've been on this site since moving to Michigan.
I got an email message from Christy (Larry's wife) that Larry is not doing well.
Below is the message that she sent to me. Please keep SSZL575 in your prayers.
From Christy Burich4:46pm Jun 11 Dear Friends,
Please forgive me for taking so long to inform you about something very serious. Both Larry and I have been through so much and still it is a non-stop roller coaster of events and emotions. Too much for me to handle and stay on top of adequately. Anyways, you may remember about this time last year, Larry was diagnosed with a very rare eye cancer called Ocular Melanoma in his right eye. So rare that only 6 in 1 million people get it a year. Sadly, this cancer is aggressive and it will metasticize in the liver with one or two years for over 50% of those affected. We thought we had treated it successfully with radiation because even up to 6 months ago all bloodtests came back normal. Then, we discovered on May 10th, the weekend of Mother's Day, when Larry went in for his anniversary MRI that indeed the liver was diseased and showed possible melanoma. They ordered a liver biopsy for us right away to confirm the doctor's suspicions. It showed that his liver was already 50-80% involved and he had Metastatic Uveal Melanoma. Even with treatment, the doctors told us we had at most 6 months left together. Larry had actually been showing signs and symptoms before the MRI but we had the thought of cancer and its return so far from our mind, we guessed maybe he had a hernia, or maybe gallbladder issues. He was losing weight, losing his appetite and seeming very, very tired. He also had pain in his upper right abdomen and into his shoulder. We've since been through several doctors visits, surgeries and hospitalizations. I've documented most of it on a Caring Bridge page - mind you, I'm still trying to fill in the gaps with entries! Still, it's at least started and it's a wonderful place for you to sign our guestbook, leave a note for Larry, post pictures and tributes and keep up our daily updates. I can tell you that his health is quickly declining and I don't suspect it will be very long before he is gone. I am sorry though that he is not up for visitors at all. I really hate being in the middle, but everytime I ask, he tells me he just can't and doesn't want people seeing him this way. He does want everyone behaving like he's on his deathbed. I think he is finding it very painful to face the thought of goodbye, and he is a fighter too! He still is looking to feel better and continue with treatments! We both love you all so much and are so sorry to have to deliver this upsetting news. Thank you for all of your continued thoughts and prayers. We need all that we can get! To access his site on Caring Bridge go to Leaving Facebook... | Facebook and search Larry Burich. Then, open an account using your email and choose your own password. Then you can get to Larry's page by using the password: CamaroSS
I would appreciate you letting the Camaro Club know about his condition and giving them the information to Caring Bridge. You can forward this message to them all. I only ask that the password to his site not get passed around on Facebook. Thank you so much!
