Hello everyone!
I am the Coordinator for the Teen Court program in Lake County. Teen Court is a volunteer program provided by NICASA, NFP in partnership with 17 Lake County police departments and the Sheriff's Office. This program allows a first-time juvenile misdemeanor offender an alternative to the traditional criminal court system. And just recently, the advisory Board voted on allowing second-time offenders to avail of the program as long as they have not previously been a part of the program. The primary goal of the program to better enable a young person to accept responsibility for the offense. An offender is brought before a jury of peers who will "try" the case and issue a constructive sentence. When the juvenile offender successfully completes the program, the offense will not be in the juvenile's record.
We facilitate court in 7 different communities in Lake County. For the program to run, 14 lawyers volunteer as judges, and more importantly, teens from different high schools volunteer as jurors. Without the teens, the Teen Court program will not exist. So every year Teen Court recognizes the valuable effort and time of these volunteer jurors by awarding them incentives.
In this connection, I am appealing to all the members and possibly the club sponsors, too for some donations like store gift cards and/or items that are useful to high school students. For questions and/or donations please contact me through this site or through my work number: 847-546-6450 ext 8041.
Thank you very much and God bless you all!
Regards,
Jade
