  • Anyone else have oil pump failure???

    Yesterday I took my Camaro out for a little drive. After we stopped for something to eat I went out to start the car again. My heads up display started saying "low oil pressure, shut engine off." I had to have it towed to the dealership. They told me it will be about a week until I get it back. They have to pull the motor apart to replace the oil pump. What a huge pain in the A$$.

    Has anyone else had any problems with this??? The car only has 11k miles on it.

    I have heard of this before. I am not sure if you are the only one on here or not. But I know it is a known issue.

        Search on Camaro5. There's a few threads on this issue. Typically what happens is the valve gets stuck and that's all she wrote. Some guys recommend the melling pump. The pump itself isn't that expensive, it's just a pain to install and ensure it's aligned properly. If/when i decide to cam, I will swap the pump with a melling to be safe. Honestly I think it's just the luck of the draw. So many Camaros out there and this doesn't seem to be an issue for most.

          Thanks for the posts. I'll talk to the dealership tomorrow about some possible upgrades while they have it pulled apart. So much for the Hooters run this weekend!!! That wont be happening for me...

            This is why I did an after market pump when I had the cam swapped.
            2010 yellow 2SS/RS
            Speed inc cam, TSP headers and some other stuff.
