Just feels really odd. And a 9 speed trans, do we really need that many speeds?

yea it does feel odd. I guess they have teamed up before too. It's almost like they want to have the ideal RPM at every fathomable speed limit out there.

I know at 75 our RPM is around 1800-2000. I wonder how big of a difference MPG would be if we were at 900-1000 rpm.

Sounds like we're just inching our way towards CVT or a gearless system.

Hopefully the two of them will figure out a way to make the new trannys handle more of a pounding before they die.

Didn't jeep have a CVT trans in the Jeep compass and it fail miserably?

I did not follow the technical aspects of it. What I remember most was the human issue of not wanting to adapt to the change in sound characteristics of a system that was always changing and adapting ratios -- which has the effect of making the engine jump all over the place.

            People seem to like the

oh I agree. I was working as a porter at a chrysler dealership when they were out. No one I talked to liked it. I would have to drive them down to get washed and it was just odd. They were always in for trans issues too.

So long as there doesn't end up a Mustang with a bowtie on it, we're good.

Nissan has been doing the CVT thing for a number of years now... Indeed sounds and feels funny to hear no shifting.

Some of the best Mustangs are already powered by the Bowtie....
