It's a pain in the rear, but my method is much better than actually putting on a front plate...

The first time I got a ticket, I used some mild two sided foam tape and stuck the front plate to the car and took a picture.

I brought the picture to court and they dismissed the ticket. I got another ticket about a year later and brought the same picture and got the second ticket dismissed.

So far only two tickets since August 2010

Regardless, it's safe to say that no front plate is a gamble.

The bumper isn't metal, so drilling a couple holes in the bottom is no big deal. I use a JacFab bracket that uses the existing bolt holes underneath the bumper. I've been pulled over a few times for no front plate.

Knock on wood. No front plate issue over 2.5 years now. I do keep it in the trunk with the hopes of being about to talk my way out of it if the need arises.

Thanks everyone for the input. We have ours in the trunk as well, just on case. I'm hoping that we will never have to put it on. It really is a stupid law though. I do not see what the big deal about having a front plate is.

I live in the city so i have a jacfab bracket which i bought from tansor. Works great! No drill holes on the bumper. Fits under the front of the bumper. I had to find a solution because the day i took of the temp plates, a couple hours later i got pulled over for no front plate!

This battle has been going on for a long time. I can't say much for the people in IL but I'm very familiar with the WI rules. I have several law enforcement friends and a few in my family. The truth is the police "can" pull you over for this. It probably wont happen unless they really want to stop you in the first place. Let's be honest, an aggressive officer can find a reason to stop any car. For just every day driving the odd's are well in your favor you wont have a problem. Even if you did get stopped (in WI) you are usually given a 15 day compliance ticket. Where if you fix the problem and have an officer sign off on it that's the end of it. Which could simply be a couple zip ties the lower facia area. Which after signed off can be easily removed. The statues don't say anything about how the front plate is mounted. Just that it has to be there. So to answer your question I'm not sure I'd get my drill out just yet.
