Got to admit it, it would have been a really hard chioce of what to buy if Pontiac was still around and had come out with a firebird! (And you know they would have.)

The picture tells the story... My cars in the mid 80's! (Sorry, but the picture is grainy.)

I hear ya, Rudy. I've had mostly Pontiacs my whole life and no question I would have probably gone with a new Trans AM. I'm still pissed at GM for ditching Pontiac instead of Buick. Pretty happy with the Camaro though so I didn't loose too much sleep over it.

                  I WANT T-TOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Pontiac was still around... I hate to say it.... I WOULD have gotten a firebird/Transam. I have always loved f-body's but the T/A has always looked the best to me.

I'm pretty sure you can buy a t top conversion kit for the camaros, but its also veryyy expensive

Am I sensing a pattern here? I have to agree with fastfreddie on his comment... Both, GM's decision making and being happy with my Camaro!

See though, this is exactly why there is NOT a trans am (or pontiac for that matter)

If you're going to produce an sister model ala camaro & trans am... for everyone that is inclined to buy a camaro, you're not gaining a potential buyer of a trans am.

In other words it's a shared market, so you're diluting your sales while spending a greater amount on overhead to keep the machines running.

At least that's the way it seems to me -

Not going to say I wouldn't have loved to see pontiac stay around - but IF they did, they would've needed a couple new ORIGINAL cars that really captured the public....

Oh I dono... a new 2 seater mid engine... ala Fiero GT.....
                          a GTO done correctly....

so many ways that could've went and been "driving excitement"

I get where you're going, but they still do that with other makes... Good example, the Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave... All pretty much identical vehicals, but three GM makes. (I know because I have the Saturn Outlook, which was also the same base make.) I recall GM stating that they were eliminating Pontiac instead of Buick because they had a bigger market for buick in the over 60 crowd, and that the brand was not part of the main 4 makes... Never the less, even though they had there issues in the 80's (Like most GM brands!) my family (Parents) had been exclusive Pontiac owners since 1967, and I have owned about 5 myself... so I guess for me it was personal. :-(

From what I heard, Buick had the over 60 crowd in the USA and they sold better over seas. Pontiac sold better locally.

Pontiac had the G8 but yes I agree they would of had to come out with more unique cars.
