2016!? Talk of it already. Next-Generation Chevrolet Camaro To Have Made in U.S.A. Label

  • #2
As soon as the alpha platform was being used in other GM's, the word the camaro was going to be using it has been out there.

I say its the right idea, Now with the new LT1 out, yes it doesnt make that much more power than the current LS3... but when you mate that to a body that has the potential to be 500-600 lbs lighter. That will turn the camaro into a new machine. But we do know they won't let it be faster than the vette so i would put my money on a 3300-3400 lb 6th gen camaro right around 450hp range. That would be good enough to compete with the lighter, higher revving mustangs, but keep it under the true powerhouse.. the vette.

i also like the sound of actual "made in america" even though parts will still be imported from canada and mexico... its a step in the right direction in my opion.

First off, I admit I have no idea what I'm talking about, but...

is the reason the Camaro has less power than a Corvette because GM doesnt want Camaro to beat Corvette or does it have more to do with styling, weight, cutting edge technology and price of the vehicle? Adding in all this extra power to a Camaro would surely move it out of a price range that is comfortable for the majority of the target audience.

I think Chevy is doing a great job with power and tech for the Camaro and keeping costs in proper alignment. I'm not sure if the Camaro and Corvette actually compete against each other. Corvette buyers are willing to spend more and thus Chevy can afford to invest in additional research for power enhancements for the vehicle. The nice thing is that these new things eventually make their way down to the Camaro when the cost ratios even out.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's the way I see it.

Well with this current model camaro and corvette, the corvette only has about 10 more ponies. The real reason the car is faster is because it weighs less and is more aerodynamic.

Back in the 80's... they stopped producing the grand national because it was faster then vettes. So yes GM will always make sure that the vette is the top dog, but now because of how fast cars are they can make a lot of other cars decently fast. The biggest issue slowing the camaro down is its weight. Power to weight ratio is way off compared to that of the vette. Thats why the alpha platform will be a great change for the camaro. But i do forsee that even with that platform they will make sure the vette is always in the lead.

Because of new expensive technology advancements given only to the Corvette or by deliberately restricting power to the Camaro even if it means no additional costs in building the car?

Ummm no they stopped the GN because they closed the plant in Flint, they killed the G-body platform therefore no need for the plant, it killed not only the GN but Monte Carlo as well. It was not due to it being faster, but that they were developing and making new platforms evolving the GM brand.

As far as it being faster that was only in the 1/4 mile and only with the "factory freaks" stock to stock.

CTS is the sigma platform. the ONLY offering on the Alpha platform is the ATS year to date.

i stand corrected, The CTS was the closest to it as it was based off the platform sigma 2 platform. And they wanted to come out with a competitive lighter and smaller framed design to compete with the germans.
