  • Other hobbies?

I don't think this has been discussed...

What other hobbies/interests do you all have besides cars/camaro's?

I recently have picked up on two hobbies/interests this year. Shooting and fish.

I finally got my foid card this year, I have shot a decent variety of guns at the range and just last weekend went trap shooting. Got to shoot a 50-60 year old over under that was just gorgeous.

As for my fish hobby/interest I just picked up a 72 gallon bow front aquarium I plan on having it be a salt water aquarium with live rock and coral. My goal is a self sufficient ecosystem.

I did the fish thing before. Got out of it when I started moving around a lot..

I had a very easy to maintain (pretty much self-sustaining) blackwater fresh water tank setup. Using Peat Moss over the Zeolite type crystals helped a lot in keeping the water hardness and pH in check. It darkens the water (hence the name), but it makes the environment much more natural and you can remove things like Algae blooks and rapid pH shifts. It does keep it naturally acidic more so than a clear water, but that's the nature of it. I had all like plants, real driftwood and river bed gravel. Everything in the tank flourished and grew as large as the system would allow for.

Sounds like a nice tank. I have thought about freshwater as most of the people I know who have tanks are freshwater and they could help me. However something about the looks of a sand bed with live rocks and coral just make me want to stay with the saltwater idea.

I've wanted to do Salt Water before, but until I own a place and plan on being there a bit -- I don't want to risk it.. Freshwater is much easier to relocate and handle.

My last was a 42G Bow/Hex front Acrylic. I've really taken a liking to the Acrylic tanks. Not only are they lighter, but they're much better thermal barriers and tend to take less heater time to maintain temperature.

          As far as other, hobbies....

I've collected robots before -- Specifically, the Soul of Chogokin line from Bandai
Collected stamps, baseball cards, Stark Trek stuff, coins, etc.
I used to tinker with home electronics kits -- building little circuits here and there to test out ideas (same with Chemistry sets, well.. before the whole 9/11 thing)

If I'm not doing the car thing, I'm riding my motorcycle. The wife loves to ride so that's something we enjoy doing along with car events. Other than that, I'm a drummer and continue to play when I can. I did the band thing for many years, but not anymore.

I'm a season ticket holder for the NASCAR races at Bristol Motor Speedway so I do that twice a year. We also periodically go to a race elsewhere. Our interest in that is starting to fade so not sure how long we'll keep that up. I also follow motorcycle racing (MotoGP, AMA, etc.) and like attending those events when I can.

That's about all I have time for.

                  Staged nerdography:

I collect 70's and early 80's Popy diecast robots though some other stuff has snuck in here and there. Very few of mine are MIB though a good chunk are in nice shape:

OOH.. I see Vehicle Voltron, you have a Vavilos back there, is that Voltron 2 with the 3 robots in front of Vehicle Voltron? Rest of them aren't part of my childhood
Edit: Mazinger ... I recognized him afterwards.

                        I've got a few interests.
Woodworking, mostly a winter hobby .
I've got a decent shop in the basement. It has a Lathe,Tablesaw,Bandsaw,Planer,Jointer,Radial arm saw,Shaper.

                        I like to Ride ATV's , haven't been riding much lately,I have 4 ATV's and my wife has 1.
My 4 are Cannondales (yes, the same company that makes mountain bikes) my wife's is a Yamaha Wolverine. I have been all over the U.S. riding. We've been to Baja ,Mexico , The Rubicon Trail in Caifornia-Nevada , the Rockies in Colorado, Glamis (Imperial Sand Dunes) in Southern California, Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia plus many places in Wisconsin,Kentucky,Indiana.
I also collect old spark plugs, the small household oil cans, and old woodworking tools.

I guess that covers most of the major things.

I am an animal lover. I volunteer a good chunk of my spare time at a shelter to help those dogs and cats that aren't fostered yet. I woulda been a vet but school is rough for me.

A new interest of mine as well is building my website. Just started a month ago so I have a ton to learn but will hopefully be fun and exciting for all.

Sounds like there is a good chunk of bowlers and robot collectors.

I too bowl (not much lately) had a 182 average, never have shot a 300. Closest I got was a 273. In high school my friends and I were on leagues. We placed as a team to go onto a state tournament and we got 3rd in the state for under 18. I personally was ranked 19th under 18.

So us 5th gen owners are nerds is what it comes down to huh? haha
