  • Cracked windshield

Help please!!!! I got a rock chip in my windshield & a 3-4 inch crack/line has appeared. I don't want to try & have it fixed. So I'm looking for a replacement windshield. Anyone know of a good repair shop & if it's not too much to ask a good price.

    Thanks in advance

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I always cringe when I hear the rocks bounce off my windshield. I have heard that insurance should cover this. So I would say give them a call too. hopefully someone else can help get a good deal.

      Bummer!

Dont know if this is the case with all companies, but I know that State Farm Insurance will replace it and not affect your premium. No deductible either. At least that was the case for my last windshield.

First thing, verify with your insurance what your coverage is.
Second, be careful of what company you use, and who's glass they use. Safelite is baaaaad. Run away!
I had Express Auto Glass in Naperville take care of mine, of course, they come to you. You will have the option of using the aftermarket glass, or paying the difference for GM marked glass. on mine it was about $15 difference.
The aftermarket glass, from Pilkington is actually same as OEM, but without the GM logo. (Pilkington makes the GM Glass) You can always call your local dealer and ask who they use to do their glass, too.

Allstate uses safelite for "repairs" and it's free. But I'm really leaning toward a replacement
But thanks for the info, I had no idea

Ps replacement is not free, covered under your deductible

For what it's worth, mine was initially 'repaired' by safelite... and it failed 3 months later. When the Express Auto Glass tech looked at the repair, he said 'no wonder it failed....' ...Free may not be all it's cracked up to be... lol no pun intended.

Though I have a separate glass deductible vs other coverages, and it doesn't affect my rates, but YMMV as always

Does one of our members work at a glass place? I could swear I've seen a glass place on Ogden Ave, just East of 355 amd has a Synergy Green Camaro parked in front all the time? Maybe not a glass place? Anyone?

If it's cracked, you will want to replace. I would be surprised if they even offered a repair on a cracked windshield. If so, you might want to go somewhere else. Only time I would accept a repair would be for a chip.

When I told State Farm it was cracked, they didn't even hesitate in saying, let's replace it. Dropped the car off, was replaced, and I never heard anything else about it. This was on my G6, not the k'maro.

Some insurance companies have different standards of repair vs replace and also with deductibles.
