This one is just a 1:1 replica of the in game device from the Portal Series. It's officially the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device or "Portal Gun". It's a device that creates an artificial wormhole between two different colored portals. The colors help you keep track of which one you're using. The gun has lights on it to reflect that.
In the game, it is your primary means of travel around the map and is your only weapon. You shoot portals at various surfaces and can walk between them just as you would a doorway. It's basically a physics game wrapped in a humorous interface with a crazy test lab computer names GLaDOS. The commentary from her is just outstanding.
It's a spin off of the Half Life series' Zero Point Energy Manipulator Device or "Gravity Gun". In that series, Black Mesa ("Aperture Science's competition) was where your character Gordon Freeman started it all. In Half Life 2, you're introduced to the Grav Gun.
This is one of the Investment Opportunity clips that previewed the game and shows the Portal Gun in action.. Along with the Long Fall Boots.
