  • strange strange car! (non camaro)

Ok so my friend is having issues with her car. Its a 2006 saturn with an aftermarket remote start and alarm. (this may be important)

the car alarm will go off randomly for no reason at all. Just sitting there and it went off. So I had her just lock it once instead of twice and was fine.

30 mins later we go out front and the dome light is on and won't go off. (all doors closed and light set to door)

Unplugged the battery for the night, next morning her boyfriend plugs the battery back in and the car STARTS!

I have never heard of ANYTHING like this before. Any idea's suggestions? I am thinking it has to do with the aftermarket alarm/starter.

Might be a door jamb switch or lock actuator for the dome lamp... The starting and alarm is probably related to the aftermarket alarm... Either it needs to be reprogrammed or a circuit board with the unit is bad or the wiring isn't installed in the car correctly... What kind of system and who installed it?

couldnt give you details on the alarm. I asked her and all she said is that it was on when she bought the car. In my old 94 camaro the alarm/remote start was under the hood and had a switch to make sure the hood was closed. I could not find anything in this car. alarm/remote start related besides the blinky light on the dash.

I had a reset button under my dash and could not find one in her car.

I told her to bring it to carmax lol

Surprised that there wasn't a hood pin, like you said, but it's possible to not have one. Depending on the unit, it could be tied into the car's obd2 system for vehicle control. The alarm/start brain box could be toast. The brain box is likely tucked up under the knee bolster in the dash.. May help to find and unplug for a bit, then plug back in

it was dark but i was using a flashlight and I didn't see anything under there. I will look again next time i see her.

She says it only happens at her boyfriends house. But her boyfriend told me the alarm could be going off right next to her and she wouldn't know unless someone pointed it out.
