Not to sound ungrateful but do you ever have good news?

It is not my news, but yea I sure wish there wasn't all this, but people need to be aware...

I guess the good news is when everyone wakes up and says enough is enough and we have more good news than not. Turns out, GM is the INSTIGATOR:

Ok so good news -- replaced front pads & rotors on my RS this week and had a heavily seized caliper pin -- got it out replaced the pins and bored the sleeve and saved the money I may have had to spend on a replaced caliper. That's my good news for the week.

Many, many automobile companies already have EDR's (Event Data Recorders) including GM vehicles... I am not sure what year they started, but safe to say it has been for many years. ....Included in this is your very own 2001 and 2002 Camaro... it's referenced as a crash and diagnostic module. Check your manual, page 1-25, first paragraph. Grab your tin foil hat, man!

^ Yes but adding an always on data connection (OnStar cellular) add a WHOLE OTHER ANGLE to the concerns! Plus they have never been mandated, ever.

          Here's some history on it:

“Event data recorder” is the generally adopted term and will be used in this Comment. Other terms used by the industry include: “Diagnostic and Energy Reserve Modules,” or “DERMs” (EDRs manufactured from 1990-1993 by General Motors); “Sensing and Diagnostic Modules,” or “SDMs” (EDRs manufactured from 1994-1999 by General Motors); and “Crash Data Recorders,” or “CDRs.” See John M.
