  • Tablets!

So, I've got this itching to buy a tablet... but I want some valid reasons (excuses!) So I figured I would poll my fellow club members!

What kind of tablet do you have? (iOS/Android, etc)
    What size screen?
What's your favorite app or thing to do with it?

oh, and lastly, anybody got any deals?

I have the Asus Trasfomer Tf-101 (I think) with the optional key pad and it is android. It is a 10 inch screen. I like mine.

I have a bunch of apps but favorites are games;Drag racing, Angry birds, Flick it(Golf), Reckless Racing, etc. Others apps would be Dolphin HD(browser) Weatherbug elite, Shazam, Google Music. I could go on and on.

I use it when J takes my laptop away. I also use it when I have gigs since it is smaller and more portable but the screen is still large enough that you aren't squinting. It is 720P resolution too and movies look good.

Asus has just come out with a new Transfomer that is twice as fast with a keyboard that has made mine less expensive, I got mine on black Friday, or if you just want fast go with it. Also, some time this month Asus is releasing the new OS Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

This tablet and the Samsung Galaxy S10.1 were the two that were both the highest rated, for Android based tablets, by a lot of websites last year; PCMagazine, Gizmodo, etc.

I won't get into the whole Apple vs. Android, that is a personal choice.

    Hope this helps.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

Acer Iconia 7" here (Android). The main reason I got it was for the car (always wanted a carputer and this is better for me than my Windows tablet). Bigger nav screen, big Torque gages/displays, and for general use. I also whipped up a nifty mount for it that hangs down from the rear-view mirror stalk.

BTW Tony, can you send me a link to the OBDII transponder for that Torque program.

Yeah, the Torque app would be nice on the android.

I saw a neato fridge mount for the ipad though, would help make it more versatile

I love my android phone, and cost wise, unless the ipad2 drops to the rumored 299 price point when the ipad 3 is released, the ipad is probably out of my price range, but we'll see

I've held a few 7" tablets, and they seem just a bit too small, but haven't used one long enough to have a really good idea, but seems that the sweet spot, between 7 and 10 doesnt have a lot of players right now

X2 on the Asus Transformer TF101. I just bought mine about a month ago and really like it. I was going to pop for the TF201 or Prime in order to go with the latest and greatest, but read that they were haviing a lot of problems with the metal case knocking out the wifi and gps.

One thing that you don't expect from a tablet and surely don't buy one for, but the camera takes (5.0) takes decent pictures.

I also bought the keyboard and stuck a 16G SD card in it.

yeah, I saw the HP touchpads on woot (32 GB on main site, 16 on sellout.woot) ... though i would have to hack android onto it for decent app support, so I have been hesitant to pull the trigger on that one.

Yeah, I have gone through the same thought process... one of the reasons I was thinking of the iPad, since it's different. But I'm used to Android now, so iOS might annoy me, LOL

I am of the opinion that if you use Android now why spend the extra money to re buy the apps all over in IOS. You all ready own them and can just download them on your new Tablet once you buy it.

As far as the TF101, ie Transformer, I bought the 16GB with HDMI 1.3 out, Tegra2, which is plenty fast, and 10 hours battery life.

Now add the keyboard with a SD card reader, I put in a 16GB card, TWO USB outlets, mouse pad, Full Keyboard plus an additional 10ish hours of battery and you are ROCKIN'. SRS stereo sound although it is weak and like I said Great video.

So with the KB I now have 32GB Memory, 16-20 hrs of battery, 2 USB ports, 10 inch screen which is 1200x800, and it plays FLASH.

You can find these tablets in the $250-300 range and the keyboard $75-150 range. You just have to look.

What ever you choose, good luck and let us know.

I patiently wait for my ICS.
