  • NTSB wants your cell phones

today the NTSB suggested that they would support a federal law making it illegal to use any cell phone in the car except for an emergency call. Even with Bluetooth devices or speaker devices. Are you kidding me, !

I drive over three hours a day in the car minimum and have been doing so for longer then these yo yos have been in office. I think I know how to drive and talk at the same time.

now a teenager, that's another story, there should be some limit there until they get a few years of experience behind the wheel.

they can come over and take the phone out of my cold dead hand before I committ three hours plus of my day to nonproductive time. LOL

Oh and hear is the kicker, they are calling on cell phone companies to detect when the car is moving and make them inoperable.

That will last long enough for someone to get followed and sexually assaulted because they couldn't call the police.

VERY GOOD POINT, didn't think of the whole safety issue from that angle

That wouldn't go over well if it's my wife as a passenger and she's on the phone. Good luck getting that one to pass.

The more distracted you are while driving, the better chance of them doing exactly that.

Hands free sets are great, guess what....you still need to dial, answer etc...all involve taking your eyes and focus off the road.

Your 3 hours of "unproductive" time isn't worth anyone else's life.....think about it. Are you really that busy? Could you live with yourself?

            I fully support this law.

you can dial a phone number as simply as turning the radio station or fudging with your factory installed GPS.
In addition there is voice dial. I support safety as well but this seems a little extreme.

Yes Im really that busy. and yes I could live with myself, cause I know that I would never get in an accident with someone else because I was dialing the phone, or answering the phone, besides which I have handsfree dialing and answering, so no problem there.

Now falling asleep while driving, well I make no guarantees there.

HAHA, Very True Garret, I think I get pretty distracted messing with the radio stations more then anything else. I think they should work on a law to ban radios from cars too then.LOL

If this flies, they would also need to do the same for other distractions, i.e. reading the paper, putting on makeup or nail polish, shaving, and eating. Talking on the phone is less taxing than all of those.

There is no way this law can pass. Safety is key, without a cell phone no one can call emergency number for any case including accidents or to report drunk drivers etc.

Why not just mandate new cars to have bluetooth technology. How I make a phone call... "click button on steering wheel, Say bluetooth, voice, call this person. Eyes never leave the road.

If phones are outlawed they would have to outlaw CB radios. Companies couldn't dispatch drivers, etc.

I drive 35000 miles a year and have seen all of the above and more even a guy reading a paperback while driving 65mph on rt53.
They are talking about outlawing handhelds only, factory installed equipment will be allowed such as On Star.
There will be more companies like this coming soon and they will track our every move and eventually govern our speed or we will get speeding tickets in the mail just like the red light cameras.

                              Maybe a Conspiracy Theory! LOL!

We are losing more and more freedoms every day.
