  • Trunk opens unattended - FIX

OK boys and girls, here's the problem: Get in your car, the "Trunk Open" in the DIC tells you it's open, pull over, slam it shut, resume driving. That's IF you're lucky enough that someone hasn't ransacked your trunk while popped open and unattended.

It happens because your key fob trunk release button was pushed inadvertently in your pocket. It is one of my most frustrating things I dislike about the Camaro.

Now for the fix: Replace the trunk release relay with a specially made module that makes is necessary to push the release button TWICE in order to get into the trunk.

So here's the deal. I'm building six prototypes and want to give them away, in exchange for feedback from you. I will deliver them to the first six respondents who PM me. You should request one if you have in fact experienced the same frustration I have...then you'll appreciate the add-on part. It takes about four minutes to install, anyone can do it, and it's very simple - you just have to push the release button twice to open the trunk. I'm hoping this fix will eliminate the random open trunk problem.

First come, first served. Six people. If it works out, they will be available to the Camaro world.

    Thanks!
    John Spina

Damn !! Seriously the most hated part of having a Camaro !! That and I dislike the key fob in general. But the trunk opening all the time is annoying !

Did I make the list I saw the thread on camaro5 first. I've had the problem before. I've also made my car honk at me and lock the doors when I'm not in the car. Guess I stuff my pockets too much sometimes.

i believe he means to say the keys are in your pocket and when going out to the car to leave you didn't realize the trunk was accidently released by being in your pocket(possibly your hand or something bumps your pocket where your key is) and you just jump into car and not even realize it opened

Wow, this is funny, 4th Gens require two trunk key fob button pushes to open the trunk -- so GM fixed something that wasn't broke?! lol

Hmm. maybe the key fob is too sensitive, I dont think i ever accidentally opened mine.

I definitely need this when it's available.
This happens to me at least twice a week.
