Mitchell is my congressman. He has introduced this legislation before and it didn't pass (obviously...duh!). He is approaching this from a cost savings view for the state. This bill needs some lobbying to help it through. Some of the opposing voices that are heard come from law enforcement people who say that they need both ends of the vehicle id'ed with a plate to assist them in crisis situations. Most all of the arguments against the bill could be easily countered, but it seems to be all about a lack of interest.
The money savings is not huge, so that don't gain much momentum. But, hey, a little here...a little there...
As we all know, there is a lot of clout in the Chi-area. Co-sponsors signing on would surely help.
You know what'd be even better? Car RFID. No plates, just RFID Not a fan of including too much personal info in RFID, but plate number, and registration status would be pretty cool. No more plates, no more registration stickers!
yeah, Mitchell sponsored the same bill last year, and it didn't go anywhere, though this time he says the savings will be diverted into a policeman's fund of sorts, which is different than just a cost savings from last year. The cost savings I believe was under 1 million.

As much as I would like for the law to change so only the rear plate is required I just dont think its gonna happen. There are just too many people against having only one plate.
I just got my first no front plate ticket today in Niles :-(
What do you guys do when you get them?
I am thinking of just taking the "you have to pay to play" attitude and just pay it by mail, but I wanna make sure it doesn't count as a moving violation.
The crazy thing, in the late 90's I have a POS car that had no front plate for 4 years plus. The bracket had rusted off, and I was just too lazy to replace it. I never received a front plate ticket on that car ever. Now I have a nice looking car, and get a ticket for it the 1st day I started driving it this season.
I just couldn't bring myself to drive rivets thru that beautiful front bumper and I hope that I continue to not receive that ticket. Sorry to hear about that MyWorld, and the new mods are really sweet!
Never gonna happen. I haven't been hassled for no front plate in a while. Last time was 02 or 03 by College of DuPage police and it was warning. 2 Trans Ams and 2 Camaros later and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If I get a ticket I'll pay it, there's no way in hell in drilling into my bumper. I do have a temporary set up in my trunk. I put suction cups on the stock holder and it works pretty well.
I have to put a plate on mine... the local PD where my office is drive our lot and ticket for missing front plates. I did NOT drill into the car though. I flipped the mount upside down, drilled a few holes in the mount, and secured with zip ties, through the lower grille opening. It's insulated from the body with door weatherstripping. I have to put it back on this weekend after getting the stripes on. If I can, I'll shoot some pics of the re-install

Cool Thanks!
I am going to do a very temporary install for some photographs, and then take it off after court.
