  • Facebooking with OnStar

I just linked my OnStar account with my Facebook profile and went to the garage to try it out. It's awesome! You can post audio status updates and have it read your news feed to you while you sit back and drive (or in my case, sit in the garage).

Now if only they would update the software to let 2010s be able to use the mobile app.

Interesting -- would love to see a video of what you're talking about... I've never been a Facebook fan, but GM is moving in the direction of an App Store for OnStar, I think... That could get interesting.

My first post was a little embarrasing. I thought OnStar would translate my voice message to text. So I was talking like a robot because I wanted to make sure it translated properly, but it actually recorded my voice and posted an audio message on my profile.

I have a few friends in overseas locations and when it was reading the news feeds to me it came across one in Serbian. That was funny listening to that. I don't know Serbian though so I'm not sure how well it did. Too bad it can't translate languages too.

Just what I need.. My car detailing my friend's latest bathroom incidents, one night stands, what their kid is doing now and "omg I totallyz just found out that my personality is a chocolate cake with strawberry frosting" while I'm driving...

My luck, my colorful metaphors for pedestrians in downtown Chicago would get uploaded to FB...

Onstar had a commercial for that last night during the Super Bowl. Pretty cool stuff. I've read that 5-10 years from now we will all be able to get a small computer chip implanted into our brain and interface with your computer so that you never need touch a mouse or keyboard again. Just look and think it and it will be up on the screen. Google is working on the first interface right now. Only thing is I may need a Porn blocking APP.
A Penny saved...Well, Now I'm out of Pennies.

I'm not so impressed. if it can present the data to me faster than I can retrieve it on my phone, then call, err facebook me about it.

My principles about distracted driving would not let me check something as frivolous as FB while driving, even if it is hands-free, for the most part. If I'm stopped and parked, I can easily check my cell phone in just a couple seconds.

Remember that allstate commercial with the pink durango? The distracted driver getting a text message she didn't like. Just imagine that same driver getting a FB update she didn't like. Same result, smashed up pink durango.

I saw the commercial too, I think it's bit unnecessary, but cool, but seriously, imagine having the dealerships having to service your car because your facebook app isn't working omg, and I get a loaner while you work on that right, really does gm think some of this stuff through and the cost involved down the line. Lol

I actually don't post on Facebook all that much as it is. I just think it's kinda cool to be able to do it hands free. It's a free add-on so what the hell. Maybe I'll use it, maybe I won't. Probably would not be a good idea to announce your speed in a post when your in the midst of breaking a personal best. Well, actually now that I'm thinking about it, maybe that would be fun.

...accept that if the wrong people get ahold of such a post, the po-po could use it as evidence against you.... or at least they would try

Okay, maybe not so much fun after all.

He probably would have been fine, if he hadn't been pulled over for doing 116 with the video still in his possession... Not that I condone driving that fast on a public roadway.. But, he didn't get busted by putting it on YouTube. He got busted by a radar like most others.

Not to mention he incriminated himself there admitting to why he was taping himself..
