  • 2011 Mustang review

Yesterday while I had my Exploder in for service at Ford, I test drove both the 2011 Mustang V6 convertible and 5.0 GT, both automatics. I was extremely unimpressed at the V6, as I kept asking the salesman (who knew less than I did about the Mustang) if this was the "new" V6, because it was a DOG!!! The engine sputtered as I hammered the pedal after driving a couple of miles. Did some of the old 4.0L make into the 2011's? No growl from the exhaust either. The fit and finish and overall quality of the product is not up to the Camaro standard, except for maybe the dashboard. I then drove the GT with an appearance package with side louvers and a stupid plastic cowl hood attachment that makes the hood taller, but has no function; it looked really stupid. The 5.0 was strong, but I don't think any quicker than a stock L99. The visibility while driving was better, but as we all know from the exterior the Camaro is far superior. Everything seemed a little cheaper and less refined in the Mustang. As an example, take a look at where the wiper arm goes through the cowl, cheap...cheap...cheap and don't get me started on the rear end of the Mustang,...fugly!!!! I'll take my dose of major coolness and refined muscle car of the Camaro anyday!

I actually want to go into a Ford dealership and ask to test drive a new 5.0. Although I don't think they will take me seriously as I'm only 19 . I'll just have to tell them I'm looking to get rid of my "crappy" camaro and look into a mustang!

Fugly! That's a great word. I could use that with the 30 or so I turn down a week.
Oh, I'm now going to hell for saying that.

No I didn't leave the Exploder there, as I need it as my winter truck. I also tow that truck behind my motorhome.

Leave it there and pick up a trailblazer or tahoe!

I drove a 2011 Mustang GT convertible and a pre-production Camaro SS back-to-back at the Camaro Focus Group.

The difference in handling and stability is almost night and day.

So I'm hoping the Camaro was the better handling vehicle. Doesn't matter, Dave would never buy a Ford. Are you going to be joining us at Mini-golf and the Morris car show? We need your color represented.
