  • New to the area, shops/tracks/dynos?

I've actually been here almost a year now, but am just getting back into racing. I used to be a hardcore LS1 guy 'back in the day'. I was making around 100 passes a year and had made hundreds of dyno pulls back when I lived in KC.

now that I have a 5th gen and a 3rd gen, i'm getting back into it. What are the recommended local shops/dynos? I know about speed inc, but I was dissapointed they basically stock no parts and had a month or more wait on dyno time.

most important, where are the local tracks and what are the best nights to go? I'll just be running on street tires.

    thanks!

Pete at showstopper does a lot of work for everyone. A group of members just went to Great Lakes Tuesday and now they are totally hooked on racing. I think they are planning on going again on the 25th. There are all kinds of info everywhere on this website. They love to hangout at the Rockford Hooters on Sunday's. We haven't been there yet because we are about 30 miles south of Chicago. Where are you from and what do you drive? We are going to the Woodward Dream Cruise tomorrow. Welcome to the crazy site of C5G.

Kathy is right about being hooked on racing. We're going to hit GLD again Wednesday. I made 22 passes there last Tuesday, hoping to get in that many again. Its a little out there, but as you can tell with the number of passes it wasn't crowded. Dan is also trying to setup a track day in Byron where we race, and then head to Hooters in Rockford afterward.

Check out FLP in Naperville, another big shop, HP Performance in Mundelein (smaller shop) I don't know of any Chicagoland shops that actually stock performance parts much... Also HP Tuners is in Buffalo Grove, they make tuning products... Would love to do an event there & tour to learn about their Camaro products!

Out south, Straightline Performance. Nick is the owner. Nice guy and very knowledgable and thorough, as well as honest. Decent prices on Mustang Dyno.

Its easy to get hooked!!! I'm not going to go crazy and rag out my car like I did with my 99, but I want to get out and run it. I'll definately be up at Great Lakes with you guys next time you go and i'm in town. Unfortunately I travel a lot for work and I'll be out of town next week.

You mean Rockford west of chicago?

I'm from Lemont and I have an 85 Iroc, 11 Camaro and 02 silverado
