  • UGH yet again it strikes from GM

Took my car in today about the 20 million rail dust marks I have. The service manager didnt believe their were rail dust marks. After a review he called the body shop manager over from Fuller's.

When this guy showed up he stated it's rail dust marks and bad ones. His corny assistant was trying to say I parked under a tree. I told him no it garage parked and the car is only 2 weeks old.

Fuller's said he wanted to clay bar it but since some looked bad they might get bigger. If after 2 clay bars and they still showing it he might have to repaint the whole car!!!!!

Fuller's said he is 70%-80% sure he can get rid of most but to be prepared for the worse. At this point the salesman who sold me the car walked out and I told him "Nope (salesman name here) will have to find me another one". I told them I will not accept a repainted car thats 2 weeks old to be prepared to take this one back then for another one.

They told me to drop it off tuesday to clay bar it.

Did you waive your return option for the $500?

Was never offerd it but I did speak with the bank and they stated I still have time to return it if the car has to be fully repainted. This is because they still havent paid the dealer yet since they were waiting for employment verification for my wife.

Ok. This is 1st time I'm heard of this Rail Line thingy majig. I'm assuming this happens while in transit from Canada to here on a open rail car. Pretty dumb of Chevy not to spring for enclosed cars. I would be rather pissed off myself and I would suggest you let them know you are part of a rather large forum family that gives potential buyers the scoop on what dealers are S*&T and what dealers take care of there customers. Good luck on this and "F" The Man....Man. <----- Opie and Anthony quote. Got XM?
A Penny saved...Well, Now I'm out of Pennies.

Rail dust is fairly common for these cars.

I don't know that they're still running that 60 day guarantee promotion any longer where you get the 500 off instead, which would make sense that he wasn't asked about it.

That sucks though. Didn't you notice this when you picked it up? I haven't heard of rail dust marks before, so I don't even know what it would look like. I hope they get it fixed right.

I have heard of the rail dust stuff their is a Very Big Deal going on with this as the paint seems to be the weak point in this car.... If they say get it painted I would say Contact Pete at Showstopper as he is a authorized GM repair center! My car is going there for paintwork repair Thursday that is authorized from GM. Now I would get a second opinion for sure on any work. I just can believe this is the second confirmed car I know of......wow

Why don't they shrink wrap the cars????? I don't get it. Call Showstoppers and get a second opinion for sure!

The 3 times I went to look at the car it was always dusk to dark out. If you stand next to the car you cant see them. If you goto wash the car or look close you see them all over. After I found the marks on the hood I went over the entire car. The hood (the worse area), driver side door, passenger side rear, trunk lid, few minor ones on both the front fenders.

The service manager thought it was only a issue with the white, silver and red jewel tint camaros. The rail dust marks are hard to see on dark color cars.

I will see monday what he can do and if I am satisfied with the results.

To me the car will not be the same if I had to get it fully repainted.

I don't see how the car will not be the same? It wasn't in accident so it's not like the car will be making odd noises. I know you probably really pissed off but look at it from a different point of view. Let them repaint it at showstoppers and your coming out on top. You end up with a quality NEW paint job and not the crappy paint they give from the factory. You could probably workout a deal with the dealer to compensate you for not taking a new car. For example free oil changes or something along those lines for the life of the car. That's what I would do. Keep us updated on what happens.

That is true but as you state if its a quality paint job sure. I know the dealer will only let who they want to paint it paint it. If it was my choice that be better. Oh trust me if I cant return it I will demand some incentives. Hrmm painted stripes would do good.

You are in control of the situation. The last thing the dealer wants you to do is get a new car. So demand that you get to choose the paint shop and that they cover all the costs plus some incentives. If they don't want that demand for a new car. If they don't budge on that either tell them to get a lawyer and that you will take them to court. They should fold at that point and you win! Good luck

They are required to let you get it painted at any authorized GM repair facility, not who they say.....Get it in writing from them when they say that.

If they are telling you this get me there name as i would like to get your information to the district rep I talked with a few weeks ago in Naperville that controls these kinds of complaints.

Well he got them out with minor issues. Some he had to wet sand out. He is putting in for the car to be reclear coated (the right way he said). He knows the camaro came with a thin layer of clear coat on it from the start. Other than that no more pock marks on the car.

He is going to call me back today when to bring the car back in to have it done.

At the same time I might have him paint my stripes on. He said it be the right time and would have a quote for me when he called me. Now I have to convince the wife if I can spend the dough to get them.

You do have the choice of who repaints the car.....I just had a similar issue with mine and Showstopper is a certified GM repair facility! My IOM is there right now while I am on vacation in NC! If you have any issues with the dealer telling you different please let me know I will get you in contact with the District Mgr for GM in the area.
