2015 SS vs 2006 GTO

Alright well this isn't a real race lol but I just had a general question!

My cousin just bought a 2006 Pontiac GTO LS2 6 speed, I had to drive it home since hes going to learn on that car... All I can say is WOW that car feels like it has a hell of a kick.. My question is.. how come my Camaro feels so sluggish and slow.. lmao to be honest when I throw my car in 4th gear and rolling down 30mph and want to pick up speed it lags while on my cousins GTO it picked up really quickly it felt like I actually had all that power available at the foot.. could it be electronic throttle? Or something not sure I haven't owned my car for a long time don't know all the specifications

Why are you in 4th gear going 30mph and trying to accelerate? You're in 4th gear way to soon.

Just cruising and just trying to pick up a little speed and not wanting to downshift. I tried it in both cars and the GTO felt way better in any gear actually... if i floored it in 2nd gear it would break loose and I would feel the acceleration while in my camaro I can barely break traction maybe the tires play a role but still the acceleration on my camaro is kinda lacking

I agree your in the wrong gear(4th) for 30 mph if you want to be thrown back in your seat on a Camaro. LOL

Yeah lol im not talking about getting sucked into the seat acceleration at that speed but im thinking now that its probably different gear ratios making the GTO feel like it has a lot more torque hmm.. not sure but im getting jealous just in general of how the GTO accelerates :'( lol

Gearing is different between the 2 of them. I owned an 05 GTO as well. And my camaro was quicker stock.

But it's mainly gearing and what gear you started in.

If you only have 1500 miles in it, Your at the end of the break in period in my opinion. If you have not done your first oil change yet, take it easy until you do. You may want to do a fuse pull at some time in the near future also to reset the computer a bit.

I change my oil every 2000 miles. But I'm a little over the top. You want the motor to last, then don't follow owners manual break it. Beat the crap out of the car to make sure everything is seated properly ;-) just don't bang gears or bounce off rev limiter.

But it's all about power band and where power is made. 30mph is 3th gear is actually not good for the motor under heavy load. So if you were to down shift to 2nd you would see a huge difference.

When you are accelerating from a stop, try using your tachometer as a guide for when to shift (not your speedometer). If you want to experience a little of the LS3's power; use 3000-3500 rpm as your jump-off to the next higher gear. Want more? Try 4000 rpm. The LS3 red lines at 6200 rpm; don't be afraid to experiment with the acceleration power of 2nd & 3rd gear. Those two gears are where it's at.
