  • Key recall

What did everyone do about the key recall. I finally got my car out for the year and called to set up oil change. They said the have to do the mandatory recall.
Just wondering what other people did. Thanks

I have had a couple of those letters. Every time I get any work done on the car, I decline the recall work and then sometimes initial saying I did not want the recall done.

They will get my key fob after they pry it out of my cold dead hand, after the car turns off of course at 55 miles an hour, cause my super stretch Armstrong knees hit the ignition.

J-Lo, like Tony mentioned, I think you can sign something to keep it. Neither of ours have had it done but we've not been to a dealer either for service.

I had my oil changed last week at a small Chevy dealer in Carbondale (stored my car down there for the winter. Weather hasn't allowed me to bring it back yet). I told the service manager that I wanted to keep my fob and did I need to sign a waiver to that effect. He said it is my car and I can keep my fob if I want and that there was nothing to sign.

I was at my dealership 3'x last year. I had informed them the first time that I was absolutely NOT going to do this and I was willing to sign a waver. They said there was no waver to sign and that they would not ask again. However - that was a lie and I was asked the other two times as well.

Yeah, I think if you definitely do not want it done, you better inform them each time you take it in. I would even have them right it on the service ticket. I've read where people have picked up their cars and the dealer did the recall without asking.

Just have 1 key made from the black tie wrap bar code label. Use that when your @ the dealer for service. That key opens the door too. Right.

I compromised on the key recall. I took one key with me and let them change that one over which satisfied the recall. Now I'll just put that key back in the drawer and keep using my switchblade key fob.
