  • strange noise?

So last month i installed my catch can and there were no issues...tonight on my way home though i heard a strange clacky sound similar to noisy valves and only onn acceleration. Checked oil and still was above low a bit as i need a change here soon. I added a quart and the problem continued. Its a year old lfx engine...help!

i did fill up and yes it gets louder and faster with acceleration also has a weird popping coming from the exhaust...maybe a valve part crapped out causing misfire?

Might have gotten some bad gas and I'm not talking about the kind you get from eating at Taco Bell.

You could wait until you run this tank out and see if that's it. Did you get gas from a station that you normally don't get it from?

Is your check engine light on? If so scan it for what it says.
If not, it's not likely it's a real misfire as the car would detect that.

Do you notice any power loss? Or any other driving characteristics?

Off brand gas? Did you pull off a plug wire?

Same gas as usual...plug wires were a-OK...took her in and was told that because of my mrt axle back that my warranty was void. Magnuson-moss act will hopefully change the tune the dealers singin

Your cat-back should only affect warranty on the exhaust system, unless somehow it was found to be the cause of a failure on the car, but it doesn't sound like they looked too hard? Maybe you might have to try a different dealer.

Its an issue now because they submitted it to gm...even a different dealer would say my warranty is toast

Maybe check with a different dealer anyways.

I had my output shaft of my tranny replaced under warranty when I snapped it at the track... and he's she was twin turbo at the time and still had a decent amount of rubber in the wheel well. Even got complemented by the service manager on the nice turbo setup lol

Sounds like could be detonation. I would recheck catch can install to start with if not already done. Has the car been tuned or anything else changed besides exhaust?

I had a situation just like this from changing 1 valve cover. Once I put old valve cover back on it was gone. Sounds like car is a diesel on accel or that the valves are clicking. And it was only on acceleration. Talked to tuner and he told me that could need to adjust tune to valve cover. I choose to just remove valve cover. Maybe this is also your situation with that particular exhaust or catch can install. If you dont want to go to a dealer. Take it to one of our sponsors that does tunes. They should be able to help you.

A valve cover does not affect the way a car runs at all? its purely cosmetic and contains the oil up top? I woukd seek a different shop if they are telling you they can't tune for your valve cover.

Plus if it was detonation there would normally be a CEL. But if there's a bad lifter or a valve stuck it can cause a noise without causing detonation or a CEL.

I don't claim to be some internal motor specialist or anything but in my situation it was in fact the valve cover. I had No problem previous and changed valve cover to a chrome one for looks and I had the problem. Took valve cover off and put original one back on and no problem anymore. Pretty simple process of elimination. I also called around for some assistance And as I have been told the drivers side does create or carry a certain level of pressure. Especially with my supercharger connected directly to the drivers side valve cover via the catch can. With this pretty valve cover that is just for looks, Well I was able to fill the catch can in 100 miles do to the amount of suction from the blower and the difference in the oil and air movement . So the valve cover does a hell of a lot more than nothing based on what I have seen Cause again once switch back to other valve cover no more filling catch can either.
