I point out that one bit because I tend to come off as a d*ck even when I'm not trying to be.. Unfortunate side effect of what makes me good at my job.

I'm not a mechanic, so I'm not trying to tell others what to/not do in this case. Just simply providing my experience and information from those that are more knowledgeable than me and what they've instructed me on.

        Rear Differential Fluid

Rear diff use redline heavy duty shockproof with Gm modifier.... It's cheaper and better fluid then Gm stock fluid. It coats and protects like a serious heavy weight oil but thins and doesn't obstruct or damage... It lasts longer without change and it runs cooler.

Royal purple synchromax is great in the trans takes the notch out of 2-3 and the trans runs about 20-50degrees cooler even on the road course.
But these are just my observations from racing and playing with my car and not (knock on wood) having diff or trans failures on an early 10 that has been both modified & raced.... But hey what do I know
Racing is my life, everything else is just minor details.

Use the GM fluid "DEXRON LS Gear oil" 75w-90 part #88862624. It includes the modifier and is a synthetic. It replaces having a synthetic and adding modifier. All the vettes use it. Its good stuff. Gets rid of any chatter too.

Before you use any GM rear gear fluid make sure it's for your vehicle. If I recall GM made a change to the fluid which required replacing the diff seals to be compatible with it. Sorry I don't recall the details since I use aftermarket oils anyway, I didn't commit it to memory. I think the problem would be if you used the new fluid with original seals they would start leaking.

Forgot about that, there is a bulletin stating to replace both axle seals on a non-zl1 diff. But going aftermarket I am assuming you'd take the same risk of a leak. They don't say what is different about the fluid. Maybe its a higher percentage of modifier, but guessing. The oe fill is a 75w90 syn with modifier. Which is what LS gear oil is but premixed. Haven't seen any leak yet...so who knows.

Changed rear differential fluid today. I was very surprised not to find any metal shavings on the magnets. I am confident with everyone's input I used the recommended fluid and friction modifier. Thank you!
