  • 1LE Upgrades

So i dropped off my car on Monday after work at my dealer (Bill Stasek) for some suspension upgrades. I am getting the 1LE track pack from the camaro5 fest and i got a few other upgrade like the 3.91 gear and the ZL1 Hurst short throw. On Sunday i polished one of my heat shields. And today i got my silicon hoses (hope they fit since they are for the L99 not the LS3). And i was able to talk to my dealer and they are going to fix the paint bruise that they made fixing a scratch (there is a orange discolor on the driver rear bumper). woohoo. I am having a awesome day today. o and they cleaned up and suspension and even painted part of it, it looks like new.
only think that make me said is that i may not get it back this weekend.

The 1LE upgrade package was a good deal, IMO. Probably should have went for it myself. Let us know how you like it once it's done.

You should come out to Road America with a couple of us from this board and see how it performs.

There might be some spots left open.

                dam i would love to,
but i am not sure if i will pass tech, the wear bar are getting close to flush and are flush on one part of my tire, my tires are on there last legs. Nittos Invos or Vredestein Sessanta for next year. Hell i might even go with a square setup with 19" rims (I have head that is the best)
and it looks like i will get the car back tomorrow (only to drop it back off on tue)

                  Help

So I just got a call from the dealer telling me that the rear gear was not covered on the camaro5 coupon and that I owe $800 for the installation of the rear gear. Before I dropped off the car they told me that everything was fine, and that GM would cover the install. I specifically asked them about the parts and if they would be covered. looks like they messed up and want to charge me. I have my car now but I was suppose to drop the car off for some paint work today(stuff they need to fix). The speed is also off by 5-10mph which they still have to fix.
Dose anyone know how long the rear gear takes to install?
and what recommendation do they have for me.
fyi I have 2 more years of oil changes with them still.

If they are re-using your differential housing, i would suspect a competent mechanic could press in the ring and pinion within 4-6 hours. At $100.00/hr labor + the price of the rear gears from GM which is about $200.00. They aren't far off on how much they are charging you.

FYI, if your dealership can't recalibrate your speedometer, I can recalibrate with the IPF-Tuning module. I installed 3.91 gears in my 2011 V6 and recalibrated with no issues.

Dealer can do it through gm and keep the warranty

no that is $800 for the labor alone I paid retail for the gear. 3 something
they said that the cost was cheaper because they had to pull the suspension for the 1LE track pack. It would have been $1600 (or that is what they say). I paid for all the parts already. $2500 for the 1le track pack, zl1 shifter, and 3.91 gear. they said that they can make me a deal for $600.
I feel I have been sucker into a deal. I almost don't want them to fix the paint (they mess up the color) and just abandon them. and lose the oil changes too.
I might be able to do $400, that seem fair.

I would like to reiterate that I have the car now.
                          All the parts are installed.

Thing that I still need the dealer for
                          fix speedo
                          paint correction
oil changes at least 2 year (at 3x a year)
                          free car washs
                          2 free waxing's

Now that I'm at my laptop, I dug into the special deal a bit more. First, The 1LE gear is NOT in the special performance parts catalog from the 'fest, which means it is not included in the free labor deal. Second, even if it were part of the free labor deal, you only get 1 free labor deal per VIN, so you would have had to choose between the 1LE track pack OR the 1LE gear (if it had been eligible) Now, the dealer should have explained this up front, and it sounds like they didn't really read up on the deal before hand. That being said, I highly doubt that they'll budge on their offer, but the gear install should include the speedo correction- Presuming you have factory warranty left, you can keep it, even with the new gear. The dealer has to submit the change to GM and they will download a calibration for it, and the gear option will be added to your VIN. It would be moronic and dangerous for them to install the gear and not do the calibration - all sorts of issues could stem from that, including ABS issues, etc.

As for the paint issue, if they screwed it up in the first place, I would make them fix it. as for the oil changes, etc, take it or leave it, it's nice to have, but if you don't like the service department's ways, don't go back for that.

I now know the the gear is not part of the deal, the the key phrase in the coupon is "1 work order per vin" there can be a few things on the work order (at least that what the dealer said). From what they said i got the 1le pack and zl1 shifter installed under the coupon just not the 3.91 gear. The only reason i got the gear was that it was listed in the book in fine print and the coupon said anything in the camaro5 fest book. I also ask the dealer to check to make sure this was OK before starting on my car. they only said that it was not OK after they had it in my car. I wanted to prepay for the whole install so this didn't happen but they didn't let me. I think i am going to offer them $400 (I kind of feel i am giving them extra money)
