  • Coilovers....

so i noticed this was being discussed in a couple threads recently. So i thought it would be nice to get a thread started to gather info on different brands and experiences.

Would like to see both good and bad, but please explain why in either direction so future members can make a educated decision on what to go with.

So why not list what brand you have, what settings you have it set at, and what you think about overall experience.

    ready go!

    KW V3.
Settings... Depends on what/how I am driving (roadcourse, daily driving, dragstrip, ect)
    Why....
    Lots of reasons...
    1. They are the only ones who offer a lifetime warranty on their product.
    2. They are one of the few who develop their product in race conditions and then bring it to market.
    3. Their product is their product . Made by them. They don't purchase someone else's product and repainting & package them.
    4. They (at the time and I still believe this is true) are less expensive then Pfadt & Pedders for the same level (and possibly) better performance.
Racing is my life, everything else is just minor details.

I think if you move this to the performance section you may get a bigger response, this is a good idea, with so many choices it would be nice to see the pros and cons of each from people who have bought them. I have been looking at them online as well.

Your missing the point, that's exactly what people want is opinions on their experiences with different ones, and since you have bought some I am sure you have an opinion,

I agree Randy. I know your situation so I think it would be helpful to hear about it. Not only the product but the customer service aspect. Its not meant for bashing. Just experiences

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

Ok. So, in the interest of respect to all parties involved I want to make this very clear:

I have no malice or true bad feelings about my issues. Everyone that was involved in my suspension troubles was more than fair, very helpful and did take care of me. I am not in any way bashing or faulting the people. I just got a round of very bad luck and hardware that compounded my previous bouts of bad luck with other mods that ultimately lead to my dissatisfaction with the car.

When operating and setup properly in your car, they are amazing. They really help reduce some of the "tank" feeling with this car. We call know the 5th Gen is a tank and it's quite noticeable when you try to turn sharply. The Xa coilovers that I had, coupled with the Track-II kit, PFADT sways, solid subs and trailing arms made for an incredibly improved cornering setup.

The Xa are a step below the Super Cars in terms of adjustibility (but also a lot cheaper). While the SCs allow you to set both bound and rebound, the Xa only allow for a combined setting. The fronts are very easy to adjust and are easily accessed from the strut towers with the hood up. The rears, well, I don't know why mine where such a pain the ass, but I could only adjust one of them in the rear while the car was on the ground. The other, for some reason, I could only get to while the car was jacked up. Both required me to lay on the ground.

I never could really find my drag settings because every time I went, I was fighting a leak issue with one or more of the dampers, so, honestly, the fact that I was able to even get an 11.9x @ 120 with busted coilovers, a failing clutch, and OE PZeros was amazing.

Around town was the same. I never could really figure out where I wanted them, but I blame Chicago for that one. The roads are just terrible and full of potholes so every little bump or uneven area would make one setting great and another suck while still not being "right"

On the road course at Road America, the car was a beast. Once I was able to get my synth brake fluid in, the car was flying around all over the place. It was more car than I was driver at the time, even on the OE PZeros. Tim, Heather and I surprised a lot of people up there that year. We heard many people, including my instructor, tell me they didn't think the 5th gens could do that. Including one pissed off Porsche owner.

You might like the manually adjustable coilovers since you like to tinker and will have access to a jack, stands, will run with different tires, etc. They will let you set them to how you drive instead of making you drive how they want you to.

If you're going to want great steetability with the ability to drag race, then you might check in to coilovers that can act like a 90/10 when you need but them settle back in to a more corner tolerable mode. Heather seems to really like her KWs.

The Pedders Xa will not give you the independent Bound/Rebound settings, so SuperCars (also has external reservoir and larger pistons I believe) would be the option there.

I can't speak for any of the other companies because I haven't used their product. When my setup was working correctly, it worked really well and made the car feel much lighter.

KW FTW... Mine are adjustable like supercars... At below the XA price...

The only down side is the same down side with all highly adjustable coilovers... You must drill 2 holes in the trunk floor for the top adjustment... Oh and the instructions are in German.
