Ok the Camaro and the G8 were both built off the same platform. Camaro has wider rear tires and pzero's. last winter it sucked!

G8 had skinnier rear all season eagle rs-a's and it was one of if not the best car I drove in the snow!

Is it all the tires or is there something I am missing?

the thinner the tire, the better traction you would get. Plus all season will be better than true performance tires like the camaro stockers.

so that would totally make sense.

I just have been looking at 245's all around in a snow tire and didn't want to be disappointed after dropping $1300 if possibly the suspension or something else played into it as well and it didn't handle like the g8 did.

oh yeah you should be good. One way to look at it is like a rudder, If you had a really thick bulky one would it be able to maneuver a boat like a thinner one. Plus performance tires have tread patterns to maximize tread surface area, because the rubber on the road the better traction.

The opposite is true for snow and rain even sometimes. All season and winter tires have special tread designs that allow snow, ice, and water to basically slip through the tread to allow the rubber to cut through it all to still contact the road.

So i would put my money on that if you were to get the 245's all around you would have the same handling characteristics.

Also winter and all season tires are a different rubber compound, than summer performance tires.

You should be talking to G-MAN. He is Mr.Tire. Last season, he hooked me up with a great set of tires. Just put them back on for the winter.

A snow tire is built to perform at low temps and to handle winter conditions such as snow, slush, ice etc. To build a tire like this narrower more flexible type tire there is sacrifice at the other end, which would be in handling and high temps. Your OE summer tire is built wider and stiffer for best possible handling in dry and temps above 40 degrees. To do this there is again sacrifice at the low temps loss of snow and slush traction. An all season tire is an attempt at do exactly that. They try to provide somewhat of a balanced tire to deliver performance in all conditions therefore there is a sacrifice on both ends and you land somewhere in the middle sacrificing some dry and some wet to get yo the middle. I will say a good quality summer tire will perform better in the rain than an all season tire will. So that said best choice is to have the best function oriented tires. One set summer tires for summer driving and one set of winter tires for winter type driving. The winter tire also will do better in the rain than the all season so not much benefit in all seasons for these cars, especially v8 when you look at it.

Also best if possible to use narrower 245 all the way around for better snow traction and the ability to rotate around for maximum life
For those without Brembo brakes can use a 225/60/18 for an even more narrow flexible tire for the maximum traction possible.

Thanks all for the info. I knew most of that lol. I have brembo's so that limits the 18's.

I'm throwing around a winter car that will cost a little more then winter tires and add to insurance but save miles on the Camaro and make up with better gas mileage.

Deerfield Tire just mounted up my lightly-used Pirelli snow tires on my stock rims, they are ready to go! I was ready to buy a set from Garrett but a deal came up for some with only 2K on them in Kalamazoo so I just drove out there and got them. for $600.

I'm still rolling on stock 275 summer tires up front and 555R DR's on back on my 20x9 replica rims. I threw a 70 lb bag of sand in the trunk. I'm hoping to drag race one more time year once we threw a few more mods in the car but if we have a snow storm, I'll just throw the snow tires on.
