  • Down shift in sport mode

Lately while driving the car it will downshift on its own after letting off the gas and downshift into higher RPM's. Still shows S on the display and will shift up normally afterwords so i know I didnt accidently hit the paddle. Happened 3 times in the last 2 days.
    Anyone else had this problem?

I know if I bring it in it probably wont happen again.

Picking up headers on Friday and wanted to get a tune, but now I dont want to void the warranty with only 12000 miles.

    Any Ideas?

i know i don't have an automatic so i am speaking from knowledge of some automatics i have driven...

but when in sport mode on some cars, thats what it is designed to do. Keep the car closer in the RPM range where it has better power, so in theory it would downshift on its own to keep the RPM higher to be ready to go.

I would probably guess if you left it in normal drive mode it would not do this.

now once again i could be completely wrong just going by others vehicles with both a normal D mode and a S mode.

Yeah thanks, It definetly doesnt do that in D and now that you say that, usually when in sport mode I use the paddles and just started using it more without the the paddles recently because I have been driving it for work for the last few days.

I drive mine in Sport mode (but dont use the paddles) almost all the time and what you are describing is normal. Like SYCK SS says, it will automatically downshift at higher rpms.

This even happens in my v6 in sport mode, also wanted to confirm that this is natural.

experience can sometimes trump knowledge. Thats the beauty of this forum, you get a great mixture of both sides.

                          hey bruno, just saw this.

and yes it is normal as well. Just makes your car more responsive and ready to go. Not the best for gas milage but more fun when you want a response.

i noticed it will hang on to the gears when driving aggressively as if it is waiting foryou to change gears manually especially in a turn

I notice this also, mine I have to actually shift manually when it sticks. I notice when I am turning, especially when on twisty roads. I have paid specific attention to this, and I am not hitting the shift buttons prior to it sticking. I think there may be some mention of this in the manual, in regards to increasing RPM's in the turns, when doing road race type driving. I will have to take a look. I'm guessing there is some sort of action to be taken by the driver-------- other than my current reaction of panic lol !!
