  • Mod friendly dealers??

So, I'm about to order a set of long tube headers and a CAI. I'm holding off on the tune for awhile and was wondering if issue were to arise are there any mod friendly dealers around? I know its up to the dealer to honor warranty work especially if you pull in with full exhaust and an intake.

Mmm that is a good topic to discuss at length at an event.... Find me... And libertyville is friendly if THEY install and provide the parts... Headers = tune = no warranty in certain situations.

the only mods i have are mostly cosmetic and i had the L99 lifter issue rockenbach wouldnt touch it and eric at libertyville was great, had no problems. bubbles is right thou but some dealers think that a CAI is a huge mod (seriously now).

I would be the resident "expert" (tho expert isn't really a good term more like insider) on warranty voiding mods and friendly dealers (I work at a mod friendly dealer, and a not so mod friendly, and a VERY not mod friendly, yes 3 dealers) and I work in the service department of all 3.... And yes I process, handle, ect warranty claims as part of my position at each dealer... and no I can't "push it thru" before anyone asks :P

And yes I am THE fluid nazi!

Gary Lang fixed my trans/shifter issue when I had a CAI and exhaust. I'm screwed now that I have a cam/headers and tune.

Cai and cat/axle back exhausts don't void warranties. Headers and a tune due. The ONLY thing the CAI can void is a MAF issue and the only the a cat/axle back affects is the exhaust.

Neither of which affects the trans.... Gerry Woods (I believe) was/is the fixed ops manager there and is a good friend of mine. He is both fair and level with modded cars... But not to the point of being a "mod friendly" dealer 100%

Unless I am mistaken, you'll be needing to get a tune done with the longtubes, as well.

He doesn't have to tune, but will throw codes and leave performance on the table.

Well, yes if he wants to live with codes and poor performance, then it's not required... silly of me to presume otherwise.

Not poor performance, just not max performance. When I put high flow mids on I had a code come and go. I didn't run out and tune it. Car ran fine, could have been better with a tune, but not required.

As I understand it, tunes can also be used for getting rid of codes.

Yes, shutting off the rear O2s so they don't throw a code

Yup, I'll mostly likely throw a code but its tolerable. I dont plan on tuning the car until next year so I'm cool with leaving some power on the table, drivability should be just fine. I need to keep my warranty for a little while car's not even 3 months old yet.
