There is no need for this 1LE nonsense. They just need to drop about 400lbs from the regular SS, and they would have a rocketship on their hands. No need for all this.

Sadly, I don't see that as being possible w/o severely gutting the car.. Even those on Camaro5 have had hard times coming up with that level of weight loss.. They yanked the rear seats, most all (if not all) air bags, A/C, replaced the fronts with race seats that don't move much, yanked all the sound deadening material, light weight wheels/tire, etc.

GM does have a 2 Door Performance Car with an LS3 and has that 400lbs+ weight loss.... It also only comes in a 2 seat configuration and cross flags..

Why the face palm? Safety is totally worth it, and it ought to be near the top of the dash -- that's about where I have my ProClip iPhone mounts today in my Camaros -- don't have to take the eyes far from the road.

The other month, some chick was looking down near the bottom of her steering wheel texting going like 70 on i355 in an SUV -- I saw her once prior and once after a tollbooth swerve into the next lane causing the person in that lane to have to abruptly move into another lane to avoid collision!

Needless to say, the new touchscreen is at and lower than the middle of the steering wheel, which is terrible.

THIS is what they SHOULD have done, or make it a pop-up unit:

Just look at this thing, it needs to go up like 5-6 inches:

The location as-is is not bad, and if it were really that bad, it would have been illegal. The G8 never had the nav system that was planned due to it being too low in the dash... so.... if Gov't says it's OK, then I'm cool with that (in this case)

There's plenty of conversations on solid vs hollow bars, but most still feel solid bars offer better performance, though not sure by how much.

the lack of auto is a bit surprising, but may have more to do with the gearing and setup of the car.... 'vert? hello added weight... the opposite goal of this car.

Point taken, but what about those wanting the best of both worlds?

Then a 1LE is not the car for them. Plenty of other models to choose from.

... Like I said. If the location was indeed too far down, it would not have passed safety regulation. Your comparison to the idiot texting while driving has little in common with your argument.

You shouldn't be playing with the touch screen while driving regardless of how high or low it is on the console. Use the sterring wheel controls while driving and the touch screen while stationary.

Sooner or later, everyone touches the radio/nav/climate controls while driving, steering wheel controls or not -- since they don't cover everything.

The main issue is really the screen location of viewing forces one to move their eyes significantly below the dash, which just makes no sense.
