  • Should I take a road trip this soon?

I want to drive down to Florida in about a month. My car has 15 miles on it. I know these engines are already broken in. I'm just wondering about being at a constant speed for a long period of time. The journey is about 2400 miles round trip. Any thoughts?

Make sure you switch up the speeds. You could take part highway, part back roads. Out run some hick town sherrifs, dukes of hazard style. That should break it in good.

I wouldn't be worried about the engine as much as the rear differential. They say you should really keep it under 60mph for the first 200 miles to avoid a whining noise come from the diff

Got mine and took it on the hot rod power tour. Drove it like I stole it. Chevrolet didn't build these things out of balsa wood and paper. Drive it ! I have 14k on it and had no problems what so ever.
Man that really sucks...........but that's the coolest thing I've ever seen

Run the $hit out of that Mo Fo!

            A few key points though...

            Get a radar detector.
Maybe a handheld CB, the truckers do still know where the speed traps and wrecks are.
A couple of Benjimans for either bribes or tickets.
Some lotion to spread on your cheeks because they are going to hurt from smiling so much!

Have fun doing it, drive it like you stole it and DON'T GET CAUGHT! He, he, he.

            T.

PS. Where in FL are you headed?
The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my Track next fix.

Wow T this might be why they had to let you go from the driving safety school

Good advice, thanks! I'm heading to the Disney world area to visit some old friends, then to the beach in Tampa.

I've always wanted to do a road trip like this. Enjoy some "me" time with my car!

Can't wait to meet some of you guys at WOW!

Don't go all the way to Tampa and waste your time at the beach when the Yankees are there for spring training. I'll sit shotgun if you need a co-pilot, you can drop me off at steinbrenner field and pick me up whenever you decide to head home!

                  Have a good trip.

If you want the best beach in America then go just south of Tampa to Sarasota and go to Siesta Key. It was rated best beach in America this/last year and it's like walking on flour and super white. I have been going there since I was a kid and you will not be disappointed.

When are you leaving? Maybe I will go with you too. My condo is rented but I may have access to another.

Dunno about you V8 guys vs the V6ers, yeah there's multiple schools of thought, but I went the easy route - keep it under 4K RPMs for the first 1500 miles or so... and I was probably a little over protective, I had the first oil change at 500 miles, then another at 1000. at 2K I went full synthetic.

Do u know what type of oil is in the v6? I plan on changing the oil when I get back. Should I switch to something else?

Unless the 2012 is different, should be 5W30 non synthetic. Most places say to wait until motor is broken in to switch to synthetic. I just changed early to be sure no production debris was in the motor

The V6 just gets normal oil. No need for synth... Unless you want it.

It's dexos. It's a synth blend. And as I have been told countless times by countless techs, if you change to full synth wait until after 10,000 miles.

And don't use the damn OLM!
